A week slipped by in the blink of an eye.
Camila Davis and Walter Wilson had made great strides at work, but the divorce proceedings? Those were stuck in neutral.
Jordan Smith hadn’t shown his face for an entire week.
Camila’s plan to gather evidence had come to a screeching halt.
Nathan Parker called again, his tone firm. “You need evidence, Camila. Without it, the court won’t even look at your case. Honestly, even the judges I know have told me you two should just settle privately.”
Camila pressed her lips together, frustration simmering. This was getting her nowhere fast.
She couldn’t just sit around, waiting for Jordan to stroll back in like nothing was wrong.
There was only one thing left to do: hire a private investigator.
Without wasting time, Camila went online and found a reputable agency. That very afternoon, she slipped on her coat and headed out to meet them, explaining everything. The detectives were pros; they assured her that her case would be handled discreetly. Camila paid the deposit and finally breathed a little easier on her way home.
That evening, her parents, Melissa and George, called to check in. “Has Jordan come back to talk about the divorce? Are you alright, sweetheart?”
Camila told them the truth. “No, he hasn’t come home at all. Counting the three days before you left, it’s been more than ten days since he’s set foot here.”
“Unbelievable! That man is too much!” Melissa was clearly furious.
If he doesn’t care about this family, why won’t he just sign the papers? Why drag this out and make her daughter suffer?
Camila, compared to her parents, was calm. She reassured them gently, “Don’t worry, Mom, Dad. I’ve hired someone to gather proof of his affair. Once we have what we need, things should move quickly.”
