Just as she was brimming with anticipation, Sarah Brown came back holding Lillian, gripping Camila Davis’s hand tightly.
Sarah had nearly lost her temper several times already, itching to give the Smiths a piece of her mind. But for Lillian’s sake—her goddaughter’s birthday—she’d forced herself to bite her tongue.
She never expected the Smiths would just keep pushing.
Especially Jordan Smith.
Not only did he show up with his mistress, but he actually let her kid steal Lillian’s chance to cut her own birthday cake.
Sarah was so furious she could feel it in her gut. Her heart ached for her best friend and her goddaughter.
Now, with Camila bravely flipping the cake and dropping the divorce bomb right in front of everyone, Sarah had her back, no matter what.
Standing so close, Sarah caught a glimpse of Sandra Taylor, who couldn’t quite hide her smug little smile.
Sarah nearly ground her teeth to dust.
Who did this goody-two-shoes think she was fooling? Look at her—acting all pure and innocent. If she really loved Jordan so much back then, why’d she marry someone else first? Like heck she was his “first love”—what a joke.
Camila felt her friend’s silent support and it warmed her a bit, though it couldn’t quite chase away the bleakness in her heart.
She’d accepted her mistake years ago. Now, all she wanted was to be free from this circus.
But her outburst only humiliated the Smiths even more.
The Smiths weren’t just anybody—they were the wealthiest family in Harrisburg, the real deal. Wherever they went, people fell over themselves to show respect.
But today, in front of all these guests, Camila Davis had just smacked them right in the face.
No wonder they were fuming.
Right then, Daniel, all faux innocence, walked over and piped up, “Camila, you really shouldn’t talk to Mrs. Smith like that. She’s your elder and deserves respect… If you’re upset about the cake, Lillian can have the first slice. Here, I’ll give it back to her.”
He held out the slice like he was the world’s politest boy.
Camila could barely stand the sight of him. The kid was a born performer—so fake it made her skin crawl.
