Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 158

After Jordan Smith hung up, frustration simmered inside him. Before heading to the police station, he decided to confront Sandra Taylor.

Sandra was busy in the R&D department when she saw Jordan approaching. She brightened a little—he rarely came by these days.

“Well, what’s the occasion, Jordan?”

Her voice was soft, her eyes full of warmth.

Jordan, however, wore a stormy expression and wasted no time: “Nora Lewis has been arrested. The cops found out her whole psychologist gig was a fraud. Her credentials? Bought online. Did you know about this?”

Sandra’s heart skipped a beat, but her face morphed into a mask of shock. “Wait, what? That can’t be right. Are you sure? Maybe there’s some mix-up. Why would she fake all that?”

Jordan felt his temper rising. He had no patience for games. “That’s what I’m asking you. Did you know? Nora’s so-called ‘therapy’ has only made Lillian worse! You said you knew her from abroad. Didn’t you ever check her background?”

Sandra’s expression shifted to hurt; her eyes went wide, almost shimmering with tears.

“Jordan, are you saying you think I’m involved?”

She grabbed his arm, her voice trembling as she tried to explain. “You know me. I care about Lillian so much. I only introduced Nora because Lillian’s symptoms were so severe—I just wanted to help, that’s all. She’s your daughter! I’ve always treated her like my own. If I’d known Nora was faking it, I never would’ve let her anywhere near Lillian.”

Jordan narrowed his eyes, studying her face, trying to gauge the truth in her words.

Sandra’s eyes reddened as she squeezed out a few convincing tears. “Jordan, please, you have to believe me. I was fooled too! Back when I met Nora overseas, she seemed so professional. I trusted her because she was a friend. I had no idea she’d lie about something like this.”

She shook her head, feigning outrage. “I can’t believe she’d pull something like that! I’m so sorry, this is all on me. I should’ve been more careful.”

Maybe her acting was just that good, or maybe those tears really did sting Jordan’s heart. Either way, his anger started to fade. He believed Sandra wasn’t the kind of person to mess things up deliberately.

Still, trust didn’t mean she’d get off scot-free. “Just… don’t make things more complicated next time, alright?”

With that, he turned and left.

The moment he was gone, Sandra’s tears vanished like magic.

Sure, he’d believed her in the end—but his attitude had changed. He’d already been distant lately, and now he’d probably be even colder. Nora Lewis really was an idiot—how do you get caught faking a degree?!

Meanwhile, because of the day’s upheaval, Camila Davis hadn’t managed to grab dinner with Dennis Williams like she’d hoped. Instead, she sat in Larry Adams’ office, still shaken by everything that had happened.
