Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 164

The Smith Group

After dropping Sandra Taylor off at her apartment, Jordan Smith drove straight back to The Smith Group headquarters.

A storm was brewing behind his sharp blue eyes, frustration simmering just beneath the surface.

His thoughts kept circling back to Camila Davis—specifically, to the image of her with another man.

Seriously? She had the nerve to cheat on him, to betray him while they were still married?

When had it even started?

Was she trying to get back at him for how distant he’d been these past few years?

But honestly, what right did Camila have?

If it hadn’t been for her getting pregnant and his grandmother insisting he “do the right thing,” he never would have married her in the first place.

Even if a divorce was inevitable, it wouldn’t be her decision to make.

The more he thought about it, the more pissed off he got. He barked into the intercom, “Nathan! Get in here.”

Nathan Gates entered, eyebrows raised in surprise—he’d never seen Jordan so worked up about anything, let alone about Camila Davis. Wasn’t he usually more concerned about Ms. Taylor?

Still, Nathan didn’t question him. “Yes, sir?”

Jordan’s voice was clipped. “Find out who Camila met with after she moved out of the house. Besides Walter Wilson and that Mr. Adams—were there any other men?”

Nathan hesitated only a beat before nodding. “On it.”

---

That evening, Dennis Williams finished his regular art lesson with Lillian and hurried out, claiming he had an urgent matter to attend to.

Sarah Brown pulled up in her minivan to collect Camila and Lillian.

On the ride home, Lillian chattered excitedly from the back seat, “Uncle Dennis said if I shade here, it’ll look more 3D! And if I add this color… Look, Mom, I’m getting better!”

Camila admired her daughter’s new painting, genuinely impressed. “Lillian, you’re amazing.”

She glanced at Sarah with a smile. “Mr. Williams is a genius. Just a couple of sessions and Lillian’s technique is miles better already.”

Sarah, who’d already been let in on Dennis Williams’s true identity, nodded in agreement. “No wonder he’s such a big shot in the art world. And look at our Lillian—she’s changed so much! You’d never guess she used to be so withdrawn.”

Camila agreed wholeheartedly. Lillian was more animated now, her expressions lively, and she was even starting to enjoy talking to people—well, most people, anyway.

If someone was mean or a complete stranger, she still clammed up, but overall, she’d come a long way.

Camila was grateful to Dennis from the bottom of her heart. Thank God she’d insisted on having him work with Lillian.

As they chatted, Sarah pulled up outside their gated community.

Immediately, she spotted a tall figure in a dark suit standing by the entrance.
