Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 217

The bodyguard sensed Lucas’s agitation and wasted no time—he twisted Lucas’s arm with a grip so strong, it felt like he was about to snap it clean in half.

“Ah—!”

Lucas’s scream echoed down the hallway, his face contorting in pain.

Seething, he spat out, “Are you people out of your damn minds? Do you have any clue who I am? Mess with the Smith family, and you’ll regret it for the rest of your lives…”

He swung his glare to Camila. “Camila Davis, you two-faced backstabber. Siding with outsiders, huh? Just wait till I tell Jordan—he’ll make you wish you never crossed us!”

Fueled by rage and some burst of adrenaline, Lucas suddenly wrenched himself free of the bodyguard’s hold, eyes wild as he lunged straight for Camila.

Lucas gasped, struggling for breath. It felt like his ribs were about to crack, even though Dennis didn’t seem to be using much force.

That’s when Lucas finally got a good look at the man pinning him down—a face he didn’t recognize. Definitely not one of Harrisburg’s elite. But the commanding presence Dennis exuded? It was far more intimidating than even Lucas’s older brother.

Must be some big shot from out of town, Lucas thought. But so what? In Harrisburg, nobody outranked the Smith family.

Catching his breath, Lucas bared his teeth, “Move aside. You may want to play the hero, but do you even know who you’re up against? Jordan runs the Smith Group. Piss him off, you’ll be blacklisted from this city so fast your head’ll spin.”

Then, like a broken record, he turned his venom back on Camila. “You really are trash, aren’t you? Not even divorced from Jordan, and already sleeping around. One guy wasn’t enough—you’re on to the next? I used to think you were just some boring small-town girl desperate to marry rich, but turns out you’re just a—”
