Right then, Lucas Smith’s face was a picture of shock.
Wait a second—was that… Camila Davis???
So she was the so-called VIP who’d snatched his reservation tonight?
With her job and her pay, how in the world could she even afford to book a place like this?
“Who’s that woman here with tonight?” Lucas asked the restaurant manager in a low, venomous tone.
The manager hesitated, unsure whether or not he should answer.
Harold Thompson, standing nearby, didn’t see the harm and gestured for the manager to spill.
Reluctantly, the manager said, “The reservation was made by a young man, sir.”
And just like that, everything clicked for Lucas.
Of course—she’s out here wining and dining some other guy.
That lowlife. She wasn’t even divorced from his brother yet, and she was already messing around with someone else in public.
And lately, she’d been making things hell for Sandra at work, running her ragged.
Tonight, he was going to teach Camila Davis a lesson she wouldn’t forget.
Lucas narrowed his eyes and boasted to his trust fund buddies, “Wanna bet I’ll have that so-called VIP tossed out in a minute? Doesn’t matter who you are or what kind of connections you’ve got—nobody gets to act big in front of the Smith family at The Maple House.”
His friends immediately jumped in with support. “Of course, man! This is Harrisburg—nobody’s gonna mess with the Smiths!”
Their confidence fired Lucas up even more. He squared his shoulders and strode toward the No. 1 private dining room, looking like he was about to crash a party he wasn’t invited to.
But before he could even reach the door, two shadows darted out from either side.
And before Lucas had time to react, they had him in a tight hold, pinning him face-down on the polished hardwood floor.
“What the hell—who are you guys?” Lucas sputtered, stunned, immediately launching into a string of curses.
Aaron stepped out from behind, looking down at Lucas with a calm, almost bored expression.
He knew exactly who Lucas was, but he wasn’t the least bit intimidated. The bodyguards—both ex-military, judging by their build and the way they carried themselves—were true professionals. One move and Lucas was completely immobilized.
Not to mention the cold, lethal aura coming off them.
