But Shirley Reed eyed her suspiciously, and leaned toward Sandra Taylor. “Ms. Taylor, who is she, exactly? She doesn’t seem too friendly with you.”

Sandra shrugged, not bothering to hide the truth. “She’s… well, a rival, I suppose. Her research center is about to launch a new medicine too. I bet she heard Mr. Reed was coming and is trying to get in on this.”

Shirley’s brow furrowed. “So it’s a business rivalry? Still, that’s no excuse for trashing your work the minute she walks in! To question someone’s hard work to their face, that’s just classless. And she’s even wishing ill on Mr. Williams!”

She shot Camila a look of open disdain. “You need to leave, right now. The Smith Group’s medicine is more than enough for my husband.”

Camila’s expression hardened, but she spoke evenly. “Mrs. Reed, I’m not here to curse Mr. Reed, or to compete with anyone. I was asked to come and help your husband. I honestly have no idea what went wrong with the communication—let me check.”

Mrs. Reed and Mr. Reed hesitated. She sounded so genuine… Could she be telling the truth?
