Camila Davis finished reading the file, her eyes lingering on the words for a few silent seconds before her mind drifted to The Collins Group.
She didn’t even need to Google them. Everybody knew The Collins Group.
The richest family in Cabinda.
Always somewhere at the very top of Forbes’ global rich list.
Camila was stunned.
She’d suspected before that Mr. Williams was probably not your average Joe, but this? This was on a whole other level.
Just his connections in the military were intimidating enough, but to find out he was also a Collins? That was almost too much to process.
For a moment, Camila felt like she’d been living in a different universe from him all along.
She suddenly lost her nerve. There was no way she could just walk in there and face him now.
She wandered out of the ballroom in a daze, feeling even worse than before. The cold air hit her as she stepped through the hotel’s grand front doors, making her shiver so hard her teeth almost chattered.
Camila hugged her arms to her chest and tried to shake off the dizziness clouding her head.
She touched her forehead. It was burning up.
Great. Now she had a fever. No way she was waiting around here any longer.
After hesitating a moment, she marched up to the front desk. “Hi, the party in the ballroom looks like it’s gonna go on for a while. Could I ask you a favor? When it’s over, could you please give this gift to a Mr. Dennis Williams?”
The receptionist didn’t even blink. “Of course, ma’am. May I have your name and a way to contact you?” She slid over a notepad.
Camila, feeling lightheaded, scribbled down her info without much thought and hurried out of the hotel.
Outside, she opened her ride app, but the traffic map was a mess—ten, maybe fifteen minutes for a car to get there.
Ugh. Too long.
Feeling awful, she shuffled over to a pillar near the entrance and slumped against it, just trying to catch her breath.
—
Inside the hotel, the receptionist went straight to the ballroom with Camila’s gift.
Dennis Williams was surprised to be handed a box. “Who’s this from?”
