Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 324

The door gave a soft beep and swung open.

Out of courtesy, she glanced up at the man and asked, “Mr. Williams, would you like to come in for a bit? Maybe have some water?”

Dennis Williams took a quick look at the apartment, then shook his head. “We’ve both had a long day, and I’m sure you’re tired. You should get some rest. I won’t keep you. Maybe next time.”

He clearly had no intention of sticking around. With a half-smile, he said, “Go on inside. I’ll head home.”

Seeing this, Camila Davis didn’t insist. She waved him off with a smile.

A moment later, Dennis turned and walked away.

She watched his tall silhouette disappear into the elevator, then went inside herself.

Once home, Camila didn’t go straight to wash up. Instead, she sank into the couch, taking a few deep breaths to calm her racing heart.

Only when she felt her pulse return to normal did she get up to head for her bedroom.

But just then, the doorbell rang.

Camila thought for sure Dennis had come back, maybe having forgotten something. She hurried over to open the door.

But standing outside was her best friend, Sarah Brown.

Surprised, Camila stared at her. “Wait—when did you get back to the States?”

Sarah had flown abroad to spend New Year’s with her parents and said she wouldn’t be back until after Valentine’s Day.

Sarah grinned like a mischievous fox. “My parents wanted some alone time—‘romantic getaway for two’ and all that. Decided I was cramping their style, so they sent me packing early. Honestly, I didn’t expect to walk into tonight’s little soap opera.”
