Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 325

Sarah Brown’s gossip-fueled spark faded in a flash, leaving her looking genuinely disappointed.

Camila Davis couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s theatrics, shaking her head. “Seriously, Sarah? You trying to set me up with Mr. Williams? That’s just not going to happen. How would that even work?”

For starters, Camila had just finalized her divorce. And the only real connection she’d had with Dennis Williams was through their shared concern for Lillian and her autism. The rest of the time, their interactions were polite and formal—cordial at best. They’d only started getting a little closer around Christmas, and now Camila wasn’t even living in Harrisburg anymore. So why was Sarah suddenly obsessed with playing matchmaker?

Camila raised an eyebrow. “What, you planning to switch careers and open a dating agency?”

Sarah rolled her eyes dramatically, then shrugged. “Trust me, it’s not my dream job. But ever since I flew over to visit my parents, they’ve been on my case about settling down. Every day it’s, ‘Sarah, you need to meet a nice, respectable guy—someone from a good family, with the right job, perfect background, blah blah blah.’ You wouldn’t believe it—they even showed me a whole slideshow of eligible bachelors, like I was picking a car or something.”

Sarah was getting worked up now. “And you know me—I’m a sucker for a handsome face. Looks first, then I’ll worry about the rest. But every single guy they suggested? Great on paper, but none of them even remotely my type!”

Camila finally understood. “So you came back and decided to start matchmaking your friends instead?”

Sarah shrugged again, not denying it. “Hey, not my fault. You two are both easy on the eyes, and then you had to go and pull off that whole princess-carry moment right in front of me! My brain just short-circuited and started scripting a rom-com on the spot.”

She waved her phone in Camila’s face, showing her the infamous photo again. “Just look at this! Tell me that doesn’t look like something straight out of a Hallmark movie.”

Camila glanced at the picture again, this time really seeing it through Sarah’s eyes. She had to admit, there was something… off about the vibe. Dennis looked perfectly composed, carrying her with all the calm of a guy holding a heavy box of groceries. But Camila herself—her posture, her expression—she looked downright bashful, like she’d just caught herself blushing.

Was she really that obvious in the moment? Maybe it was just the camera angle…

“Wow, Camila,” Sarah teased, nudging her with a grin. “Those eyes! That little flush! Were you secretly swooning in his arms?”

Camila felt her cheeks go hot for real this time. “Come on, don’t be ridiculous. I was just surprised, that’s all.” She reached for Sarah’s phone, trying to grab it away. “Delete that, seriously. If anyone else sees it, people will get the wrong idea.”
