There isn’t a woman alive who doesn’t like a good compliment. Isabella’s smile lit up the room, and her eyes soon found Camila Davis and little Lillian.
Her tone softened as she asked, “So these are the two you told me about? Lillian and her mom?”
She extended her hand to Camila. “It’s so nice to finally meet you.”
Camila was a little starstruck, scrambling to shake Isabella’s hand. “It’s an honor, Ms. Hill…”
Isabella chuckled at the formality. “Oh, please, none of that ‘Ms. Hill’ stuff. It feels weirdly stiff. Just call me Isabella, like Dennis does—unless you mind?”
When a legend invites you to drop the formalities, you don’t say no. Camila nodded quickly. “Okay, Isabella.”
Her mind was still reeling. What on earth was Mr. Williams doing, bringing them here?
Dennis Williams seemed to read her thoughts. He stepped in, warm as ever. “Didn’t I mention? I wanted to introduce Lillian to a music teacher. Isabella’s stepping back from her world tours, and before retiring, she’s open to taking on one final student. I thought Lillian might just be the one.”
Camila’s jaw nearly hit the floor.
Sure, Dennis had mentioned something about a music teacher before. But Isabella? The Isabella Hill? This was huge.
While Camila was still processing, Isabella added with a twinkle in her eye, “Now, hold your horses—I haven’t agreed yet. If she wants to be my last apprentice, she’ll have to earn it. Let’s see what this little cutie’s got.”
Dennis grinned. “I doubt you’ll be disappointed.”
He knelt down to Lillian’s level, taking her tiny hand. “Lillian, this is the teacher Uncle Dennis found for you. But before she takes you on, she wants to see what you can do. She’ll give you a little test, and if you do well, she’ll teach you. Does that sound good?”
Lillian didn’t quite get it all, but her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she looked up at Isabella. This grandma looked so pretty! She already liked her.
She nodded earnestly. “Got it! I’ll do my best, Uncle Dennis!”
Seeing her confidence, Dennis finally relaxed and handed her over to Isabella.
“Ready when you are, Isabella.”
