Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 400

As soon as Barbara Jones opened her mouth, Sandra Taylor felt her blood pressure spike. “He cares about you so much, Sandra! But have you ever thought about caring for him in return?”

Barbara was on a roll now, her voice rising with every word. “Back when Camila Davis was working full-time, she still found time to take care of the house, look after the kids, and even made sure Jordan’s meals and routines were perfect. And what about you?”

She jabbed a finger in the air for emphasis. “Jordan’s been pushing himself so hard lately, and his leg is still giving him trouble. Meanwhile, you’re just making things harder for everyone!”

Sandra could barely stand it. Barbara was always comparing her to Camila. As if Camila was some kind of saint. If she was so wonderful, why didn’t Barbara treat her better when she was around?

But Sandra didn’t dare say any of that out loud. She knew if she set Barbara off, she’d probably be kicked out on the spot.

And now, with Alexander breathing down her neck and threatening her, Sandra was painfully aware that if she didn’t play her cards right, she might lose even her last chance to stay.

So she swallowed her pride and bowed her head. “You’re right, Mrs. Jones. I’m sorry. I’ll do better. I really will take care of Jordan from now on.”

Barbara eyed her, clearly unimpressed with Sandra’s meek apology. She thought of Camila, who was admired by everyone, always so confident—Sandra just looked even more useless in comparison.

Barbara’s voice was cold. “Don’t just say it—prove it. And don’t you dare cause another scene outside. If you mess up again, you and your son can pack up and leave the estate!”

With that, Barbara stormed off, her heels clicking furiously on the hardwood floors.

Sandra stood frozen, her nails biting into her palm, her face dark with fury.

Barbara Jones, that old witch! When the Taylors were still doing well, she was all smiles, treating Daniel like her own grandson. It hadn’t even been that long, and now she’d turned on them like a bad penny.

Sandra felt a wave of panic. She used to think that if she helped Jordan recover, he’d finally accept her. But that plan was falling apart, and now the whole Smith family clearly wanted her gone. It felt like just a matter of time before she was out on the street.

Suddenly, her mother’s words echoed in her mind.

Maybe... maybe she really did need to have the Smiths’ child, and fast. That could be her last shot at staying.

The thought filled Sandra with bitter sadness. She’d never imagined her life would come to this—reduced to a baby-making machine, just for a shot at the life she wanted.

And it was all Camila Davis’s fault.

Sandra’s eyes burned with resentment as she glared out the window, her anger simmering just beneath the surface.

---

Meanwhile, Camila Davis’s side of life was busier than ever since the medical industry convention wrapped up. The Smith Group was a rising star, and everyone wanted to collaborate.
