But this was The Wilson Group, after all. She didn’t dare make a scene, so all she could do was nod and sit quietly in the waiting area.
She had no idea she’d end up waiting for over an hour.
Sandra Taylor was growing restless. She walked up to the front desk again.
The receptionist greeted her with a polished smile. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but our CEO’s meeting isn’t finished yet. Would you mind waiting just a little longer?”
Sandra forced herself to swallow her irritation and went back to waiting.
But then another hour crawled by…
Camila Davis walked in just as Sandra was approaching the desk for the third time. “I’ve been waiting here for almost three hours. Is Mr. Wilson still in that meeting?”
The receptionist’s smile never faltered. “Yes, ma’am! Thank you for your patience, it shouldn’t be too much longer.”
Sandra wanted to flip the whole reception desk over.
Just then, Camila Davis came up beside her and addressed the receptionist. “Hi, I have an appointment with Mr. Wilson. My name’s Camila Davis—I called ahead.”
The receptionist perked up immediately. “Of course, Ms. Davis. I’ll let him know you’re here.”
Sandra stared at her, clearly shocked. “Camila Davis? What are you doing here?”
Camila had never liked Sandra and wasn’t about to pretend now. She barely looked at her, face cool and indifferent.
Sandra narrowed her eyes, scanning Camila from head to toe.
Camila was dressed in a crisp blazer and skirt, her heels clicking on the tiled floor, her hair swept up in an elegant half-ponytail. She looked every bit the confident professional, with a folder tucked under one arm.
Sandra couldn’t resist a jab. “Let me guess… you’re here applying for a job at The Wilson Group?”
Camila raised her brows, thinking Sandra was getting seriously annoying.
Sandra decided she’d hit the mark and got even more smug. “Well, I guess that makes sense. After all, Jordan just kicked you out of your management gig—you’ve gotta find a new place to land. But are you sure The Wilson Group is interested? Their standards are, you know, a little higher. You can’t just expect special treatment here like you did back at The Smith Group, just because Jordan Smith was your safety net.”
Camila shot her a look. “First of all, I got into The Smith Group on my own merit. I worked my way up—Jordan had nothing to do with it. And second, whether The Wilson Group wants to hire me or not, it’s none of your business. Don’t be such a busybody. And quit buzzing in my ear like a goddamn fly, it’s annoying.”
Sandra’s face darkened at the bluntness, but she held her tongue and instead put on a superior smirk. “I get it, you’re upset because Jordan’s on my side now—he even gave me your old job. But hey, what can I say? I’m a generous soul. And I happen to know Mr. Wilson pretty well. If you’re really desperate for a job, maybe I’ll put in a good word for you.”
