Jordan Smith nodded, his expression softening as he said, “You’ve really been working hard lately.”
Sandra Taylor grinned, her tone light and playful. “Hardly! Getting to work side by side with you hardly feels like work at all.”
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she perked up. “Oh, and you’re just in time—I’ve actually got something I wanted to run by you.”
Jordan didn’t hesitate. He pulled out a chair and sat down next to her, ready to listen.
Sandra poured him a glass of water and got straight to the point. “I wanted to talk about the direction of the R&D department. Right now, we’re only focusing on medical software, which feels a bit one-dimensional. AI is a long game—it’s going to take years of investment and tons of effort just to get things verified, let alone rolled out...
I just don’t think that’s a healthy way to grow. So, I’ve been thinking, and I’d like to suggest we branch out into pharmaceutical research! AI-driven treatments are the future, sure, but medicine has always been at the heart of healthcare. Especially with all those rare diseases out there—if we develop new breakthrough drugs, we could really shake up the market and become industry leaders.”
Jordan listened thoughtfully, not jumping in right away. He mulled it over for a moment, then looked up at her, clear admiration in his eyes. “Sandra, I’m honestly impressed! I didn’t expect you to have such a unique perspective—and such a long-term vision.
You’re absolutely right. Focusing on just one area is limiting. Developing an AI medical system is a massive challenge, and even getting it off the ground will take a miracle. Pharmaceutical R&D, on the other hand, would actually be a bit more straightforward.”
He didn’t hold back his praise, and couldn’t help but think of Camila Davis. She’d been at the company just as long—how come she’d never brought up ideas like this? Honestly, Sandra was in a league of her own.
And lately, Camila’s attitude had been getting worse, her flaws more obvious by the day.
Sandra offered a gentle smile. “You’re too kind. Maybe it’s just that working so closely with you has made me bolder. I guess it’s true what they say—iron sharpens iron, right?”
Jordan chuckled. “You’re giving me too much credit. You’re naturally sharp. At least… Camila Davis has never suggested anything like this.”
Sandra’s eyes flickered for a split second. Of course, she wasn’t about to admit that the idea had actually come from overhearing Camila. And she definitely didn’t want Jordan to catch on.
