“Excellent!” Sandra Taylor beamed, ruffling his hair. “As long as we keep this up, he’ll come back to us eventually.”

Daniel nodded, then looked up seriously. “Mom, am I really Dad Jordan’s son?”

Sandra’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Of course you are! Back in the day, I had to leave your Dad Jordan for certain reasons. That’s when Camila Davis swooped in and stole him away while I was gone.”

Daniel’s face twisted with an anger that seemed too harsh for his age. “That woman’s terrible. I’ll make sure she pays for it! And her daughter isn’t any better—she’s just a clueless brat. Dad Jordan doesn’t even like her…”

He puffed up with a little smugness. “Mom, I’m gonna prove I’m the smartest and the best, so Dad Jordan will like me so much more! When the time comes, we’ll kick that woman and her idiot daughter out of the Smiths’ house!”

“Absolutely,” Sandra replied, her smile widening, her eyes glinting with unmasked greed.

She didn’t just want Jordan Smith back. She wanted to be Mrs. Smith, too.
