Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 73

Things like acute rheumatism, torn muscles, partial nerve death, or bone infections…

Maybe it was all the injuries piling up over the years, never really healing right, that left these guys with chronic pain that haunted them. Any regular doctor would probably just tell them to rest up and hope for the best.

But for Camila Davis, this was exactly her area of expertise.

Her skill with acupuncture was about to shine.

Without wasting a second, Camila got to work on the special ops team, deftly inserting needles with a precision that came from years of practice. The job was so massive that Mr. White made sure she had a couple of medical assistants on hand.

They were all seasoned Army medics—quick, reliable, and they took a load off her shoulders.

Even while treating the soldiers, Camila kept half an eye on the driveway, watching the cars coming and going.

Mr. White noticed. He knew exactly why Camila had agreed to this assignment, so he'd been quietly keeping watch as well.

But the person she was hoping to see still hadn’t shown up…

Elsewhere, in a quiet corner of the base’s main courtyard, little Lillian was sitting obediently on a bench, munching on animal crackers while two office staffers kept her company.

They were clearly smitten with the tiny girl. She was adorable, and the way her rosy cheeks puffed out when she chewed made her look just like a baby chipmunk.

One look and your heart would melt—you’d want to give her every treat in the world.

Unfortunately, the base didn’t have much to offer. In the end, all they could scrounge up were some snacks and a few tennis balls for her to play with.

Lillian wasn’t too interested in the balls, but something else caught her eye—a fluffy little puppy napping by the wall.

The puppy couldn’t have been more than two months old, wearing a personalized tag and a jingly collar. Completely fearless, it trotted right up to Lillian and started circling her feet.

It was so fluffy and soft-looking, you’d think it was straight out of a cartoon.

Lillian’s eyes lit up. She forgot all about her snacks and toddled after the puppy, her tiny legs working double-time.
