Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 99

Before she died, she made The Smith Family promise to treat me and my daughter right. But what did you all do, really? And now you’re turning this around on me? Isn’t that just hilarious?”

Barbara Jones clearly hadn’t expected Camila Davis to snap back at her like that.

Especially not to bring up the funeral—her expression hardened.

Her voice dropped, cold as ice. “Camila Davis, how dare you talk to me like this? Do you even want to make this marriage with Jordan work anymore?”

“No, I don’t!”

Camila’s response was sharp, absolutely clear. “I’m divorcing Jordan Smith! Honestly, you’ve all been dying to kick me out for ages, haven’t you? He’s head over heels for Sandra Taylor. Don’t act like you don’t know!”

That last bit was dripping with sarcasm.

Barbara’s eyes flickered, something passing behind them.

But instead of addressing it, she doubled down, her voice stern and cutting, “You think I believe this little act? I know exactly how you feel about Jordan. You’d never really want a divorce. Let me warn you, Camila: you’d better behave yourself… and show Sandra some respect when you see her!

The Taylors and the Smiths are working together now, and Sandra’s role at Smith Industries is crucial. She’s more capable than you, she’s a bigger help to Jordan. Don’t you dare interfere!

So, hand over your current project to her. It’s not something you should be involved in anyway!”

Camila let out a laugh. “Why shouldn’t I be involved? I landed that project. If Sandra Taylor is so much better than me, why didn’t she win it herself? Why does she need you to come beg for it on her behalf? Your logic is all over the place…

You look down on me, but you can’t let go of what I’ve accomplished. You can’t have your cake and eat it too—don’t you see how hypocritical that is?”

“Who are you calling a hypocrite? How dare you, Camila Davis!”

Barbara was so furious she nearly choked, clutching her chest as she coughed, completely shocked.
