Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 100

Her expression was deadly serious—not a hint of a joke in her eyes.

Barbara Jones couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Did Camila Davis really just say she’d walk away from the marriage with nothing? Was this really her?

No, Barbara just couldn’t buy it.

This was the same woman who, back in the day, had climbed into her son’s bed—supposedly for “convenience” during his hospital stays, but everyone knew she was after the family fortune. And now she wanted to act like she was above it all?

Please. With the Smith family’s wealth and power, there wasn’t a soul who could resist that kind of temptation. Even if they divorced, Camila could just pick up whatever Jordan happened to drop from his wallet and live in comfort for the rest of her life.

Barbara let out a cold, dismissive laugh. “Oh, Camila, don’t pretend to be some kind of saint in front of me. I know exactly what you’re like. Walking away with nothing? If you really did that, maybe I’d have some respect for you—but let’s be real, you don’t have the guts. You’re just playing games, trying to trick me. Well, forget it. Not happening.”

With that, Barbara grabbed her purse and swept out of the room, leaving Camila feeling more exhausted than angry.

Honestly, was telling the truth even worth it anymore? She’d hoped she could count on Barbara, but clearly, that wasn’t happening.

If she wanted out, she was going to have to do it herself.

Camila mulled it over. She didn’t care about the money—she’d walk away with nothing, if it meant she could take Lillian with her. That was the only thing that mattered.

By sunset, she’d mapped out a plan that just might work.

When Jordan got home from work that evening, Camila was sitting at the kitchen table with Lillian, eating dinner. They hadn’t spoken since their blowout the other night, and Camila had no intention of breaking the silence now.

But Jordan surprised her by pulling out a chair opposite her and sitting down. He fixed her with a hard stare. “So, you cursed out my mother today?”

Camila looked up, surprised.

His face was all sharp edges and icy anger, eyebrows drawn low. He was clearly expecting an explanation.
