“Yeah. She’s different now, or maybe our relationship is different, and it makes things different

between us.

“As long as things are good between you, then I’m good. How is the Gamma selection going?” I ask. He and Braden are nearly at the end of their trial run with their initial Gammas.

“I think we’ve narrowed it down to two. We had an idea that we wanted to run by you.”

“What’s that?” I ask, glancing at Enya again.

“Braden and I would like you to take our final two for a week each and then you decide between them. We both feel that the two men are equal in their strengths and weaknesses, and we can’t decide which one we feel would be a better Gamma.”

“But the person will be YOUR Gamma, Shane, not mine.”

“I know, but honestly, I’d be okay either way.”

This might be a good thing. At least it would give me something to focus on for the next couple of

weeks.

“Yeah, that’s fine. I’ll want to know what you two consider their strengths and weaknesses and then I’ll assess their ability to work through them,” I say as we pull up to the train station.

He turns and looks at Enya again. “Are we going to be able to get her on the train?”

“Yeah, plus this is the first stop for students. She’s got a few days before they arrive at the Academy.”

“When does the train arrive?” he asks.

“Fifteen minutes.”

“And your aunt and uncle will be on the train?”

“Yeah. Aunt Harper and Uncle Dane.”

“Are you looking forward to seeing them?” he asks as I park.

288 (Vouchers

“Yeah. Now that they’re at the Academy, I don’t get to see them very often. I would say it was nice seeing them when I went to the Academy but having a family member as an instructor gave them information on how to break me. They would have figured it out anyway, but it was casier because my Uncle Dane is an instructor for the warrior curriculum.”

He turns and looks at Enya. “Are we going to wake her?”

I look at her sleeping in the back seat. “Yeah. She needs to be able to walk onto the train on her

own.”

Shane snorts but opens the car door. “I’ll get her bags. You can get Sleeping Beauty out of the car.”

I step out of the car and open the back door, sitting on the edge of the back seat.

“Enya. Enya, you need to wake up.”

“Just a little while longer, Christian, please. I think you might have ruined me.”
