I lean forward and kiss each of her eyes. “None of that. This will be good for you. I promise you’ll thank me when you return. I’m really going to miss you.”

“I’m really going to miss you too, Christian.”

She wraps her arms around me, and I hold her until I hear the train whistle in the distance.

“Come on. I’m sure there are others waiting closer by the train stop. You’ll get your first look at your fellow classmates.”

We get out of the car and walk up to where the others are waiting.

“Alpha Christian, Alpha Enya. Hello.”

“Hello, Councilwoman Charlotte. Hello, Alpha Logan,” I say.

“Christian, do you remember our son, Lorenzo?” Logan asks.

“Hello, Alpha Christian,” Lorenzo says.

“Alpha Lorenzo, you’re off to the Academy this semester?”

“I am.”

“This is Alpha Enya. She’s going to the Academy as well.”

The other students standing around begin introducing themselves and Enya is quickly engaged in conversation about their upcoming adventure.

When the train stops, my uncle and the other instructors hop off the train.

“Who’s ready to ride the Train?” Uncle Dane asks, rubbing his hands together. “Christian!” he says when he sees me.

“Hey, Uncle Dane,” I say, hugging him when he comes over.

“If you’re here, then this must be Alpha Enya.”

“Yes, sir,” she says.

“Welcome, young Alpha. And what about you?” he asks Shane.

“I’m Alpha Shane, sir. I won’t be riding the train until next year.”

“Alpha Shane?” he asks looking at me. “Your ward?”

“That’s correct.”

“Well, you couldn’t be in better hands, young Alpha. That is until you come to the Academy. We‘ re looking forward to seeing you next year.”

Enya goes over and hugs Shane as I pick her bags off the ground. Then I help her put them on her shoulders before hugging her tightly.

“Have a great time, Enya. Write when you can. We’ll be here waiting for you in six months.”

“I’m going to miss you, Christian,” she says, and I can feel that she’s fighting the same sadness that I feel inside of me.

“I’m going to miss you too, beautiful,” I say, hugging her more tightly before releasing her and stepping back.

She swallows hard and takes a deep breath before turning and walking to the train.
