“Yeah,” I say, shoving down my sorrow. Now is not the time for me to wallow in leaving Christian. I have six long months to get through, and I really need to dive into the Academy if I’m going to make that time go by quickly. “Actually, I’m a bit terrified. Is that ridiculous?”

“Thank the goddess I’m not the only one!” he says, falling into the seat across from me.

“You too?” I ask surprised. “Aren’t you an Alpha heir?”

“Yes. And no pressure, but I don’t get my pack if I don’t pass the Academy. And believe me when I tell you that my father is ready to be done. He’s ready to take my mother all over the world and, in the TMI conversations that my father feels are necessary to have with me, he told me he wants to fuck my mother in every country in the world before he dies. In order to do that, I need to take over for him,” he says, making his eyes wide like he’s traumatized by his father’s words.

It’s so ridiculous and since I know Councilwoman Charlotte, it’s just personal enough, that I burst out laughing.

“He really told you that?” I ask.

“Unfortunately!” he says, just as Luna Harper, Christian’s aunt, walks over.

“Hello, young Alphas. I’m Luna Harper. I know you just met everyone, but that was a lot of names to remember all at once. I’m one of the assistants at the Academy. I’m here if you ever need anything. Dane will go over the rules of the Academy after we pick up our next two stops. Until then, just know that the assistants are responsible for meal preparation and clean–up and taking care of the Academy. Dinner is at six o’clock, and breakfast is at eight o’clock tomorrow morning. And while the assistants do cook and provide general cleaning services, all Alphas are responsible for their own space and their own laundry.”

“Oh, Christian mentioned that. I got a crash course on how to do laundry from my omegas before I left,” I say.

“Christian is a wonderful young Alpha.”

“Yes, he is,” I say, my throat getting tight.

“Can I get you anything to drink?” she asks.

“And for the record, whiskey talks are optional at the Academy, if you ever need one,” she says.

“Thanks. I’ll probably take you up on that.”

“Anytime. And for you, young Alpha?” she asks Lorenzo.

“I’m more of a vodka guy. On the rocks with a splash of soda if you have it, thank you,” he says.

“One whiskey, one vodka coming up.”

When she walks away, Lorenzo turns back to me. “So, you’ve been trained by Christian? Isn’t he number one on the leaderboard right now?”
