The week before her birthday flies by I thought it would drag like the last six months did But having her back makes everything right with the world again. Of course, I’m busy planning her party, wanting it to be special for her. I’ve invited my family, all of the friends she made at the Academy, and against my own desires, I’ve invited some Alphas who haven’t yet found their mates who I think might be incredible mates for Enya. Tanner is among them and as much as I love Tanner as a friend, I know I’ll want to kill him if he calls Enya mate on her birthday.

Since only one Alpha can be her mate, the others I’m inviting as options but also to start integrating Shane into a larger network of Alphas. I want him to walk into the Academy feeling comfortable that he knows some current Alphas, and hopefully, he can make some friends and visit their packs before he goes to the Academy. I know Tanner runs his pack differently than Shane does. Neither is right or wrong, but it’s always good to see things from a different perspective so you can decide the best way to run your own pack.

And, of course. Enya and I spend every night together. Because she asked for equality, the second night. I went to her room. She was thrilled and so was I. I’ve never slept in her bed and knowing that it now smells like me makes me happy. I know she’ll wash the sheets before her birthday, just in case, but I still like knowing that I’ve left my mark here, in her bedroom.

The day before her birthday, everyone arrives. Not everyone plans the party for the night before and the day of an Alpha’s eighteenth birthday, but I knew I’d want to sleep with her the night before her birthday and if I’m not her mate, I shouldn’t. Some would argue that being with her every night this week isn’t right either, but I’ll cross that bridge if I have to. Having her mate punch me in the face for being with her would be worth every minute that I got to spend with her.

Sebastiana’s response to Enya was very similar to Shane’s. She knows theoretically what to expect at the Academy, but unless you’ve been there, you don’t realize how much it changes you. Sebi could tell the difference in Enya the moment she arrived.

“I can’t believe how much you’ve changed,” she says.

“The Academy does that to you,” Enya says.

“That it does,” my mother says, walking up to hug her. “I hope you’re planning to spar with me while I’m here,” she says.

“I would love that,” Enya says excitedly.

My parents laugh as well before making their way inside

When her friends begin to arrive, she excitedly introduces them to me and Shane. When Lorenzo arrives, I clench my fists at my side.

“So, you’re Mr Numero Uno, eh?”

“She told you her name for me?”

“Enya thinks very highly of you,” he says.
