Chapter 208
I haven’t seen Tanner in a year and when he arrives, it’s like there’s been no time at all since I’ve seen him
I introduce him to Enya and Shane, then I walk him inside as we begin talking about what we’ve been doing the last year. Since nearly everyone is here, I show Tanner outside where the party is set up. We get a drink and move off to the side, letting Enya have her time with everyone.
“So, you haven’t met your mate yet either, huh?” he asks me.
“I’ll know at midnight,” I say, watching Enya.
“You think she’s the one?” he asks, narrowing his eyes at me.
“Would you hate me if I said I really, really hope she’s the one.”
“Damn, what the fuck did you invite me for?” he asks.
“Well. if she’s not my mate, she deserves a man like you. That’s one reason, but another is I wanted to introduce you to Shane. He’s been sheltered and I want him to start getting out to meet other Alphas before he goes to the Academy in six months.”
Tanner grins at me. “Why don’t we just assume that I’m here to get to know Alpha Shane and we‘ 11 pretend you didn’t invite me to a party where, if I end up mated to the woman, you’re going to want to kill me.”
I grin back. “Damn, I’ve missed you.”
“Same,” he says, tapping my glass with his then turning to watch the festivities as we get caught up and I continue to glance at the clock every couple of minutes, not sure if I want the time to speed up or slow down as we get closer to midnight.

You would think that seeing my friends again after a week wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But when you spend several hours a day, seven days a week, for six months with people and then you suddenly don’t see them at all, a week feels like forever.
I introduce my friends to Alpha Sebastian, Alpha Christina, Shane, and Sebastiana. Since most of them have heard about Sebastian and Christina the conversation flows easily with all of the

Throughout the evening. I look over to check on Christian Each time I look at him he’s looking at one of two things, me or the clock I’m not sure if Tanner realizes that Christian needs a friend, but rather than spending time with me like the other Alphas that I haven’t met before, he stays beside Christian I can see he’s trying to keep Christian calm. Christian smiles every once in a while, but it’s not his usual smile and it never lasts.
As the time begins getting closer to midnight, I excuse myself from the group of guests, making my way to the bathroom. I splash cold water on my face and stare at myself in the mirror. I’ve talked to all the Alphas here except Tanner. There’s not one of them who holds even a fraction of my interest the way Christian does. That may not be fair, but Christian caught my attention from the moment he walked into our packhouse. If my mate is anyone but him, I don’t think I’ll want to accept them. I want him. I want Christian.
When I step out of the bathroom, Lorenzo is waiting for me. I meet his eyes and he smiles.
