In Miles's mind, Fortuna was the ultimate goddess, someone who could handle anything life threw her way. So, when he found himself genuinely surprised, it was a rare feeling.
Mirabella, unfazed by the chatterbox trailing behind her, occasionally let her slender, pale fingers dance over the laptop keyboard. The plane had already crossed into national airspace, turning what should have been a fifteen-hour journey into just five. In another half hour, they'd touch down in Carnell Ridge.
Despite their progress, satellite records tracking flights to Carnell Ridge still hadn't picked up on the plane Trevor and his crew were on. It wasn't a matter of signal issues; it was as if the plane never intended to head there in the first place. Mirabella's gaze was sharp, confident in her suspicions, yet the lack of the plane's trace was indeed baffling.
With a quick glance at her watch, Mirabella decided to stop fixating on the satellite signals. She leaned back in her seat, closed her eyes, and massaged her temples, letting her tense nerves slowly unwind. Seeing this, Miles wisely kept quiet.
Half an hour later, they landed in Carnell Ridge. As soon as they did, Mirabella's phone reconnected to the network, and a flurry of messages from Wyatt flooded in. After reading them, she called him directly.
Wyatt and his team had arrived at Carnell Ridge an hour earlier and had been trying to reach her since. Finally getting through, Wyatt's voice carried a hint of urgency, "Ms. Mirabella, your phone's finally on..."
Mirabella acknowledged softly as she stepped off the plane, skipping small talk and getting straight to business, "Where are you now?"
Wyatt hesitated for a moment, then instinctively gave their location. Mirabella nodded, familiar with the ins and outs of Carnell Ridge, "Alright, I'll be there in thirty minutes."
"You're not... back in Carnell Ridge too, are you?" Wyatt's eyes widened in realization. No wonder they couldn't reach her earlier.
"Yes," Mirabella answered matter-of-factly.
