Something’s off!‘ Miranda thought, thrown off completely.

Back in the day, even if Davon just caught a cold, Kayla would freak out. She’d run herself ragged looking after him, never missing a beat.
‘But now she’s acting like she couldn’t care less, like it’s got nothing to do with her at all,‘ Miranda wondered, confused.
While Miranda was left scratching her head, Kayla just snorted and rolled her eyes.
‘Please, like I give a damn about Davon’s forgiveness, Kayla thought with a sneer. ‘What’s his almighty pardon gonna do, spare me? Yeah right, what a load of crap!’
Honestly, Kayla wished Davon would just croak in the hospital and never show his annoying face again. He was nothing but a pain in the ass.
Kayla was so over Miranda’s dramatic whining. She couldn’t care less and just turned to leave.
Miranda freaked out when she saw this, dropping all her usual composure. She rushed over, her voice nearly cracking with desperation. “Kayla, did you even hear me? I said Davon’s hurt and in the hospital!”
Miranda’s voice was piercing and brash, totally different from the gentle way she normally spoke.
Kayla rolled her eyes and picked at her ear, flicking her finger dismissively. “He’s in the hospital, not dead. What do you want from me? Throwing a funeral party or something?”
She made it pretty clear–if there was free food involved, she’d show up; otherwise, forget it.
Miranda’s anger flared up again just after she’d finally gotten it under control. Her lips trembled as she nearly shouted, “You actually have the nerve to curse my son to die?”
Kayla slowly wagged her index finger right in front of Miranda’s eyes and smirked. “Call it what you want, but it’s not a curse. It’s my sincerest blessing.”
Miranda blinked, completely thrown. She honestly had no clue what Kayla was getting at.
Kayla didn’t keep her in the dark for long. She laid it all out, crystal clear. “I hope he gets sent straight back into the next life as a beast, showing his true self.”
Guys like Davon were just animals playing dress–up as people. Calling him human would be giving him way too much credit. ‘Honestly, the sooner he croaks and rolls into the next life, the better, Kayla thought.
Miranda rolled her eyes so hard she nearly passed out from sheer rage.
The moment Kayla saw it, her irritation at being dragged out at this ungodly hour melted away. What replaced it was pure, intoxicating satisfaction.
It turned out yelling at someone felt amazing. All that pent–up tension just melted away.

And doing it right in front of Miranda’s annoying face was the cherry on top. Kayla felt like she could finally breathe, every inch of her humming with satisfaction.
