Davon had told her that Kayla was just jealous because he’d gotten close to Marianna, so she was making things difficult for him on purpose.

‘Kayla is just playing hard to get,‘ Miranda thought. I’ve seen it more times than I can count.

Sure, Kayla’s attitude was way over the top. It was not the type of girl Miranda had normally want for her son. But for now, she needed Kayla to cooperate, so blowing up at her wasn’t an option.

After hyping herself up with a whole pep talk, Miranda decided to swallow her pride and toss Kayla a lifeline, laying the motherly advice on thick.

“Kay, honey, I know you’ve been clashing with Davon over some silly little things lately.

“But there’s gotta be a limit to all this drama, okay?” Miranda forced a smile. “If you go too far and make him look bad, trust me―trying to win his heart back later is gonna be 10 times harder.”

Kayla almost had to stifle a laugh at Miranda’s words. ‘Where on earth does she get the idea that I’m throwing a fit?‘ she thought, rolling her eyes. ‘Miranda’s got some wild imagination, huh.’

Now Kayla finally understood how Davon ended up so shameless and full of himself. ‘Looks like it’s a genetic thing,‘ she mused, shaking her head. ‘He never really had a chance!

Just as Kayla was gearing up to clap back, Miranda jumped in first, giving a patronizing wave like she was being the bigger person. “Okay, you’re still young, so I won’t stoop to your level.

“Listen–Davon’s lying up in the hospital with nobody there to take care of him. He’s even lost weight. Tomorrow, have your family’s chef make him some breakfast and send over some health supplements, so Davon can finally eat something decent and get back on his feet.

“Oh, and make sure you cover all his medical bills while you’re at it. Then have him switched to a VIP suite. The regular wards are just too noisy. He needs peace and quiet to recover properly.

“Don’t worry, once Davon’s out, I’ll talk him round for you. He’ll forgive you sooner, or at least won’t keep harping on about your little tantrum phase.”

Kayla just stared at Miranda, completely speechless at her so–called “heartfelt advice.” All she could do was shake her head in disbelief.

‘No wonder she came knocking at my door in the dead of night, Kayla thought, smirking. I’ve chewed her out plenty, but she’s still holding back, not even trying to pick a fight. Same old Miranda. Still scheming, just like she was in my last life!

‘She wants me to shell out cash, do all the work, and let her boss me around? Does she seriously think I’m that much of a pushover?‘ Kayla thought. She couldn’t believe it. Miranda was so busy plotting, and she didn’t even try to hide it.

Kayla’s eyes flashed with contempt, her lips twisting into a smirk. She couldn’t help but laugh at how obvious Miranda’s scheming was.
