“It’s getting late. I’m heading back to my room to read, Kayla said breezily “Tristian, maybe just keep the lights on when you’re home at night? Stop with the creepy ghost pranks.
“If you scare me and I accidentally hit you again, and then you go crying about how I bear you up. Well, that’d be really unfair to me, wouldn’t it?”
Kayla’s words sounded wounded, but her smirk was pure provocation.
Tristian saw right through her. She’d clearly done it on purpose, but he had zero proof. His face burned red
with frustration.
Tristian jammed his hand into his pocket and angrily switched off the recorder he’d hidden there. “You! Stop right there
Kayla had kept her expression casual, but she’d been watching him the whole time. She’d caught every move be made. Once she saw him turn off the recorder, her face relaxed a bit, though her voice went cold and lazy.
“What else do you want?” Kayla asked.
“Did you have something to do with Maria getting beat up?” Tristian demanded.
Kayla raised an eyebrow. “What makes you think that?”
Kayla let out a cold snort. “Marianna’s gentle and kind. She’s always nice to everyone and never picks fights. Other than you, who else would go after her?”
“Weak? Really?‘ Kayla thought, barely holding back a laugh. ‘Kind to everyone? Please. Never fights with anyone? Give me a break.
“Marianna, kind to everyone? Yeah, right, Kayla scoffed inwardly. ‘If she was so sweet, why’s she always lying and manipulating Hailey to do her dirty work?”
“Marianna doesn’t like confrontation? Sure, Kayla thought mockingly. “That’s why she’s constantly stirring up drama, spreading lies behind people’s backs, and trashing everyone’s reputation.
Tristian keeps going on about how Marianna’s so sweet and pure and ambitious. But who is she really? She’s nasty as hell, hates anyone with money, and frames people whenever she feels like it. Total backstabber.
Does Tristian even know who Marianna really is? Kayla wondered. ‘Or is he just falling for whatever act she puts on for him?
Kayla didn’t really care either way
“Tristian, maybe do your homework before you start pointing fingers at me. You can’t just blame me with zero proof. I’m not gonna sit here and take it, Kayla shot back
“And if you’re so sure I sent someone after her, call the cops already. At least they’ll actually investigate instead of you stumbling around blind, believing whatever story you want,” Kayla added.
