If they actually lost, everyone would probably blame Kayla since she was the one with no experience.
Davon watched the scene unfold, his face twisting with anger. “How can you not see she’s trying to help? Marianna’s being nice, and you’re all ganging up on her like this.
“If you don’t want her on the team, fine. She crushed the monthly exams, and the school already approved her transfer to Class A. Technically, she’s not even part of Class G anymore, so it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t team up with you.”
Everyone froze at his words.
The school had a policy to encourage students to work harder. If someone from another class beat the lowest- ranked Class A student on two exams in a row, they could apply for a transfer.
Marianna was a transfer student who’d already beaten Class A’s lowest scorer twice, so she qualified for the

Kayla had actually forgotten about this. In her past life, Marianna had transferred to Class A around this same time. After that, she and Davon got closer and closer, and watching them together had torn Kayla apart day after day.

Marianna opened her mouth to explain, but Kayla didn’t give her the chance. Kayla’s gaze swept across every face in Class G, her voice sharp and clear.
“Look at Marianna, guys,” Kayla said. “Every time she sees me, she’s either crying or has red eyes, acting all fragile. But this ‘delicate flower‘ got herself on the debate team and into Class A.
“Meanwhile, we’re all doing just fine, so why should we act like we’re any less than them?
“We’ve never been worse than anyone. We just got off to a slower start. Just because we’re behind now doesn’t mean we’ll stay that way forever. We’ve all heard the story about the tortoise and the hare since we were kids, right? That’s exactly what it means.
“So what, you’d rather put all your hope in Marianna, someone who doesn’t even respect us, instead of fighting for yourselves?
“Yeah, Class A beat us in every debate before. We never won. But who says we’ll keep losing forever? A debate is just arguing with facts and logic, and when it comes to arguing, who’s ever beaten Class G?
“Terrible teams play in front of huge crowds every week. This is a classroom debate. If you can’t handle this,
