The second those words landed, someone from Class G suddenly shouted, I’m in! Kayla’s right. Even if we lose, let’s at least go down swinging. We’re not backing down before it even starts.”

Another student jumped in. Me too! What’s Class A got to be so smug about? Even if we don’t win, we’re not making it easy for you!

A third voice rang out. Count me in! Who says Class G doesn’t have what it takes? We just don’t usually bother with you Class A jerks. Don’t mistake that for being scared!

Class A’s constant trash talk lit a fire under Class G. Suddenly, hands shot up all over the room as students volunteered, cach one eager to compete.

Once one person stepped forward, a second and third quickly followed. Before long, more and more Class G students were signing up, teaming up, and determined to fight.

Kayla shot Tania a look, and she and Payton wasted no time picking out students who had debate experience.

Davon watched it all unfold, his expression getting darker by the second. Who the hell is this?he thought. I never knew Kayla could fire people up like that, get everyone pumped with just a few words.

Wasn’t she always so sweet and careful around me?Davon thought. Always the gentle one, never stepping out of line. Didn’t she know I can’t stand it when she tries to show off? How did she just forget all that?

Now, Kayla was shining in a way he’d never seen, almost like a different person. Davon felt something twist uncomfortably in his gut, like his control over Kayla was slipping away.

Even as Class G put together a team, Davon still didn’t think they stood a chance. Kayla, you really shouldn’t bother. There’s no way you guys can win,he said dismissively.

Kayla flashed a cool smile, completely unfazed. We’ll see about that. Let’s just wait and see.

Sunlight snuck through the halfopen windows, scattering patterns across the wooden desks and adding warmth to the room right before the showdown.

Inside, desks and chairs had been rearranged into a makeshift debate stage. On one side stood Class G, faces set with fierce determination. On the other was Class A, looking smug and confident like they’d already won.

The air crackled with tension and excitement. You could feel it. The big battle was about to start.

The last person to join Class C’s team was their study committee rep, Killian Hudson. Behind his thick glasses, his eyes burned with excitement and resolve.

Yeah, Killian had debated Class A more times than he could count. Every single time, he’d lost, and that crushed his confidence, leaving him pretty defeated.

This time, Killian honestly wasn’t planning to get involved again. But Kayla’s speech hit him like a spark, reigniting that fire inside. He wanted to prove himself. He was done being a loser.

Kayla only talked with Killian for a few minutes, but she quickly noticed how well he spoke, how clear his logic was, and how fresh his perspective seemed. She made the call right thenhe was on the team.

Class A’s debate team had Davon, Marianna, and two other students, all members of the school’s elite debate squad. They looked at Class G with pure contempt, like victory was already in the bag.

When the topics were drawn, that contempt only grew. Class A stared them down, eyes burning with challenge and confidence.
