Ravenna leaned in close and whispered in Kayla’s ear, her voice low and cutting. “Kayla, seems like you still don’t really get where you stand in the Sexton family. Otherwise, why would I be coming at you so openly?”

Every word hit like a hammer, each one slamming into Kayla’s chest.

Kayla froze, the realization hitting her all at once.

Before, Ravenna had always been careful around her because she was the Sexton family’s daughter. She’d never dared to openly mess with her.

After the rumor incident, Ravenna even called in sick for days just to avoid having to apologize to Kayla publicly.

But the past couple of days, Ravenna came back and started treating her like she was nothing. She didn’t care about the Sexton family backing anymore, going out of her way to make things difficult and even talking to her like trash.

Kayla had assumed Ravenna was just pissed because she’d gotten Class G to stand up to her.

Now it looked like someone had tipped off Ravenna and gotten her to deliberately make things harder for Kayla.

Tania looked at Kayla’s tense face, worry and anger mixing in her voice. “Ravenna’s the worst. We just wanted fair competition so we could actually improve, but she’s out here playing dirty. Kay, if she won’t even teach us math properly, what are we supposed to do?”

Math was one of the most important subjects. If they couldn’t improve in math, they were ever going to catch up and stop being dead last.

Kayla bit her lip, her eyes flashing with determination. She knew how serious this was, but she wasn’t about to give up. “Let me think about it. There’s gotta be a way.”

Payton’s eyes flickered as he started reaching into his backpack, but before he could pull anything out, Kayla spoke up, “Worst case, I’ll just hire a private tutor myself and set up special sessions for our whole class.”

Money talked. If Ravenna kept slacking off like this, Kayla had no problem replacing her entirely.

Payton’s hand paused inside his backpack. He pulled it back out casually and just smiled, “Guess we’re counting on you then.”

Just as the three of them were deep in discussion, two figures suddenly blocked their path.

Kayla looked up to find Marianna and Davon standing there with smug smiles on their faces.

“Move it. I don’t have time for this,” Kayla said coldly. She was already in a terrible mood, and seeing these two made it even worse. She didn’t bother hiding how annoyed she was.

But Davon acted like he didn’t even notice her anger. He pulled out a nice notebook from his backpack and held it out to her. “Kay, your math foundation’s pretty weak, and now Ravenna won’t even teach you guys properly.

“I put together these study notes just for you. They should help.”

His voice was gentle and warm, and he wore a soft smile, as if nothing bad had ever happened between them.

Kayla frowned. ‘What’s Davon trying to pull now?‘ she thought.

Her eyes swept over the notebook dismissively. ‘Since when does he suddenly care? This has to be another one of his schemes,‘ Kayla thought.

Honestly, Davon had zero credibility with her at this point. Anything this suspicious only made her more cautious.

“I don’t need it.” Kayla shut him down without hesitation, her voice ice cold.

Davon’s gentle expression faded into disappointment. “Kay, come on. I’m not even mad about what happened before. How long are you gonna stay mad at me?”

Kayla’s lips curled into a cold smirk, her eyes full of scorn. “Who said I’m mad? I said I don’t want it, so drop

it.”

Marianna frowned slightly, looking unconvinced. “Kayla, Davon’s just trying to help. Why are you being so ungrateful? You don’t actually think you can afford to hire a private tutor for your entire class, do you?”

Kayla frowned, immediately realizing that Marianna and Davon had heard everything. ‘What’s Marianna trying to pull now?‘ she thought, her guard snapping up.

“What exactly are you trying to say?” Kayla’s voice carried a sharp edge of suspicion.

Marianna smiled sweetly, but the expression was dripping with smugness and challenge. “Oh, nothing really. Just that… if you’re seriously planning to hire a tutor, you might as well give up now. Nobody in Yoeland is gonna agree to teach your class.”
