Chapter 168
“Well, well, look what we’ve got here. Pretty little thing walking alone at night. What, you’re not scared?” One of them drawled, his voice dripping with mockery.
A guy with a nasty scar across his face moved closer, his grin twisted and predatory as he closed in on Kayla, His voice came out rough and low, laced with mockery and something sleazy.
Kayla’s heart kicked into overdrive, every nerve in her body snapping tight. She scanned the area quickly, looking for any way out, any opening she could use to escape.
But the alley was narrow, the high walls on both sides trapping her like a cage. There was nowhere to run.
Kayla’s eyes swept over the group, and something about the guy’s voice nagged at her. She’d heard it before, she was sure of it.
But Kayla didn’t have time to figure it out. She forced herself to stay calm, trying to think her way through this. “What do you want? Let me go and I’ll pay you.”
If money could get her out of this, Kayla wasn’t going to risk anything else.
The scarred guy looked surprised, like he hadn’t expected her to be so cooperative. But a second later, his smirk turned even nastier.
“Money? Sure, we’ll take that,” he said slowly, his eyes crawling over her with open greed. “But what we really want is…” He paused deliberately, dragging it out. “How about you keep us company tonight, sweetheart? Show us a good time?”
Kayla’s chest tightened. The way he talked–so crude and shameless–it dragged her straight back to that night years ago. Those same greedy, hateful stares.
Her eyes locked on the jagged scar across his face, and that creeping sense of recognition grew stronger.
Kayla took a deep breath, keeping her voice steady. “Take the money and get lost. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens.” She was already calculating her odds, wondering if her training would be enough against these guys.
The air turned thick with tension. The four men froze for a second, then burst out laughing. Their laughter bounced off the narrow walls, sharp and grating.
“Ha! Got yourself a mouth now, huh?” the scarred guy sneered. “Guess a few years made you grow some balls.”
Kayla’s brain exploded with recognition. Everything clicked into place at once. Her eyes went wide. “It’s you!” she blurted out.
This was James Reed—the same piece of trash who’d cornered her in an alley back in middle school, who’d put his hands all over her, who’d almost destroyed her. He was the nightmare that kept her up at night, the reason she couldn’t sleep for months.
James raised an eyebrow, grinning wider. “Oh, so you remember me? Miss me all these years?” His voice dripped with sleaze. “Don’t worry, we’ll pick up right where we left off. Let big brother take real good care of
you tonight.”
The four of them started closing in, step by step.
Kayla’s eyes went cold, something dark and dangerous flickering in them. “You’re dead,” she said, her voice flat and lethal. She crouched down, snatching a stick off the ground, her fingers gripping it tight like it was her only lifeline.
