Chapter 176
:
Is that Payton’s?‘ Davon thought. ‘Since when did they get so close?‘
Davon narrowed his eyes, anger flashing across his face without any attempt to hide it.

Kayla let out a cold laugh. Davon really was Miranda’s son. Even the things he said sounded exactly like something Miranda would say. “None of your damn business!”
Davon frowned. She actually had the nerve to talk to him like that. He was about to snap back, but thinking about what happened today, he forced himself to hold it in.
Davon’s gaze landed on the red swelling on Kayla’s cheek, and he plastered on a concerned expression. “Kay, what happened to your face? Who did this to you?” He reached out to touch her cheek.
Kayla’s eyes went cold. She turned her head away, and Davon’s hand hung awkwardly in the air. “It’s nothing. Just ran into some thugs who had a death wish.”
Davon’s eyes widened in what looked like shock. “Thugs? Kay, how did you get mixed up with people like that?”
Something seemed to click in his mind, and his tone turned pointed. “It wasn’t because of Payton, was it? He comes from a rough background. I heard he hangs around with gangs. Did he piss someone off and drag you into it?”
Kayla’s lips twitched into a mocking smile. Even now, Davon was still trying to shift the blame onto someone else.
Davon didn’t notice anything off about Kayla. He gave her a meaningful look. “Kay, I’m just saying. You’re a Sexton, right? Think about who you are and who Payton is.
“You should really stay away from guys like him. This time you got hurt because of him. Next time, who knows what kind of trouble he’ll drag you into? I’m just looking out for you.”
Kayla didn’t want to hear his bullshit. She let out a cold laugh. “There won’t be a next time.”
Davon’s eyes lit up when he heard that. “You’re agreeing? That’s more like it! We grew up together, so obviously I’m looking out for you. I’d never hurt you.”
Disgust flashed through Kayla’s eyes. ‘Looking out for me?‘ she thought. ‘If he was really looking out for me, would he keep framing me and scheming against me over and over? I can’t afford that kind of “help.”
“You misunderstood,” Kayla said flatly. “I meant those thugs won’t get a next time.”
The smile froze on Davon’s face. “Kay, what do you mean?”
Kayla finally looked up at him with a cold smirk. “Like you said, I’m a Sexton. Those guys had the guts to lay hands on me. You really think I’d just let that slide? I already called the cops.
“They should be having a nice chat with the police pretty soon. Oh, and from the way they were talking, it sounded like someone hired them to come after me. But once they’re at the station, shouldn’t take long to

find out who’s behind it all, right?”

Kayla watched Davon’s face carefully, not missing a single shift in his expression.
Davon’s face went deathly pale. He forced an awkward smile. “Y–yeah… I guess.”

Kayla saw how scared he looked, and her expression turned contemptuous. For the first time, she actually used his first name. “Davon, why do you think someone would want to come after me?”
Davon pressed his lips together and said nothing.
Kayla wasn’t in a hurry though. She just kept going, her voice casual. “Doesn’t really matter, I guess. Once the cops get those thugs to talk, we’ll know who hired them anyway.
“When that happens, should I make sure they rot in prison for the rest of their life? Or maybe I’ll just expose everything they did online and let them get destroyed that way. What do you think?”
With every word Kayla said, Davon’s face got paler.
Kayla’s mood improved considerably at the sight. She was done looking at his pathetic expression anyway. “Whatever. I’ll just wait for the police investigation results. But anyone who messes with me? I’ll make sure they wish they were dead. You get that, right?”
Kayla practically spat out those last words, her voice dripping with venom.
Without waiting for a response, Kayla gave him one last meaningful smile and headed home, leaving Davon frozen in place, terror written all over his face.
Enjoy your last moments of peace, Davon, Kayla thought. ‘Once I start my payback, you won’t get another chance like this.’
Kayla’s good mood vanished the second she walked through the door and saw Tristian.
“Well, well, if it isn’t my dear little sister. What kind of trouble did you get yourself into to end up looking like this? I’m just heartbroken,” Tristian said, circling around her slowly.
His words said one thing, but the excitement and barely concealed glee on his face said something else entirely.
Kayla let out a cold laugh and called him out directly. “If you could wipe that smirk off your face, maybe I’d actually believe your bullshit.”
Tristian didn’t even have the decency to look embarrassed. If anything, his smile got wider. “Don’t accuse me of things I didn’t do. I’m your brother. Of course I care about you. Besides, we made a bet, remember? I don’t want you making excuses when you lose.”
Kayla scoffed, “Don’t worry. I won’t make any excuses. I’m not going to lose.” No matter what schemes Tristian pulled, as long as she stayed strong, she wouldn’t lose.
Tristian adjusted his tie slowly, clearly thinking she was just talking big. “Really? Because I heard you’ve been causing quite a scene at school lately. You got Class G to bet against Class A, and you’re going up against your
