“You’d better tell the truth. If you cover for the suspect and get caught, that’s still a crime,” Fabian warned.
His tone was flat and official as he questioned everyone who had just been there.
“No, we didn’t see anything.”
“We just saw those three guys walking over with swollen faces.”
“Yeah, we really didn’t see Ms. Josie or Ms. Amelia hit anyone.”
That last line came from Isabel.
Everyone in the community knew Isabel–she was the top socialite, graceful, educated, and known for her honesty. Someone like her wouldn’t lie.
Her serious tone made everyone start to doubt the men’s story. Maybe they were lying–maybe they really had just gotten themselves beat up and came here to blame someone else.
Even Diana and Emery stance began to waver. A few men claiming they were beaten by two fragile women? That did sound ridiculous.
And besides Isabel, there were other witnesses like Jeremy and his business partners.
Powerful people like them surely wouldn’t lie about such a thing.
“If you are too useless and got yourselves beaten up, don’t push the blame on women. Amelia’s too sweet to hurt anyone,” a calm, confident male voice said.
It was Jeremy, who had been silent until now. His tone was filled with affection and protection.
Fabian holds his breath. It was obvious this powerful man was siding with Amelia.
Even if Fabian did find something, with a powerful man like Jeremy protecting her, Amelia was untouchable.
Left with no choice, Fabian looked helplessly at Marcelo,
Marcelo already thought the whole thing was humiliating. He wouldn’t have said a word if his mother hadn’t made a scene, dragging more guests into it. Now, thanks to her, the incident had turned into a public embarrassment.
He silently cursed her foolishness for blowing up something so embarrassing until it became everyone’s gossip.

How did she handle herself as the lady of the household? His mother had none of his grandmother’s grace or tact.
As his gaze swept across the room, he accidentally met Amelia’s eyes–she was smiling at him, faintly, mockingly.
“Enough,” he said coldly. “This ends here. Drop the investigation.”
His words made Gianna breathe a sigh of relief.
Since the Nygards‘ eldest son had spoken, and this was their family’s event, the other guests knew better than to stay. One by one, they drifted away to other areas.
Once the crowd was gone, Marcelo stepped closer to Amelia and asked in a low voice, “Amelia, did you do something behind the scenes again?”
Even though he had decided to drop this, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
Deep down, he sensed that everything had gone exactly the way this woman wanted it to. It was as if the whole thing had played out under her careful plan and control.
No matter how tense things had become between them, they had grown up together—same blood, same family.
He knew his sister well enough to sense when she was hiding something.
No matter how bad things got in the past, no matter how they clashed in private, Amelia had never raised her hand against anyone in public like this.
“I didn’t do anything,” Amelia said, spreading her hands innocently.
Then she leaned closer and whispered in his ear, “Why don’t you ask your dearest sister why every place she goes, the security cameras just happen to stop working?”
Her words made Marcelo narrow his eyes. His brow furrowed deep.
Wherever Gianna went the cameras just happened to malfunction?
When Isabel almost fell off the yacht earlier, Gianna was there. The footage just happened to be down.
And now, the same thing had happened again. Gianna was here too.
Marcelo’s frown deepened.
The more he thought about it, the more it chilled him.

Before long, the crowd started to disperse.
Gianna, pretending to be casual, found an excuse to walk up to Marcelo.
“Marcelo, what did Amelia just say to you?” she asked.
She had noticed Amelia whispering to him earlier and how he’d looked afterward–tense, troubled, distracted.
