Out of nowhere, the scene changed. The darkness in front of her broke apart as a faint beam of light appeared.
A man stepped out of it, walking slowly toward her and reaching out his hand.
His hand was strong and steady, with long, perfectly shaped fingers–beautiful, really.
She couldn’t see his face clearly, but strangely, she didn’t feel afraid at all.
Without thinking, she reached for his hand.
The moment their hands touched, warmth spread through her whole body, and all those horrible images around her disappeared.
That warmth seemed to guide her, pulling her through the darkness.
Little by little, the shadows faded, replaced by a soft, glowing light.
When the light surrounded her, she realized she was standing in the middle of a breathtaking field of flowers.
A calm, gentle voice whispered near her ear, “Amelia, don’t be afraid. I’m right here.”
Then, her eyes flew open.
Everything looked fuzzy at first, but when her vision cleared, she saw who was in front of her.
“Jeremy? Why are you here?”
Her voice came out rough and a bit confused.
“Of course I’m here. Do you remember what happened before you passed out?” Jeremy asked, his tone filled with worry.
The doctor had already told him multiple times that she was fine–just a mild concussion, nothing serious.
Jeremy wasn’t so lucky, though. When the car lost control, he’d covered her with his body, taking most of the impact himself. His hand ligaments got strained, and his arms were scraped up badly.
Even with that, he couldn’t relax. He kept thinking maybe she had some hidden injury.
So the second Amelia opened her eyes, he was already on edge.

“I’m okay. Just a small headache,” she said softly.
But the word headache sent Jeremy into full panic mode. He immediately hit the call button.
“Doctor! Hurry! We need another MRI right now!”
“Oh, stop it,” Amelia said, grabbing his hand before he could call anyone else. “It’s not that serious. I just woke up. Feeling a bit dizzy is normal. You’re overreacting.”
Now fully awake, her mind started piecing things together.
As a doctor herself, she knew her body was fine.
She remembered the ambush. During the fight, someone must’ve messed with their car when no one was looking.
That was why they backed off afterward. Jeremy and Amelia had been careless.
And right before they hit that tree, Jeremy had thrown himself over her to shield her, so she came out completely unscathed.
When she looked at him closely, she finally noticed his arm was all wrapped up in bandages.
Not only that–it was also hanging from his neck in a sling. It had to be either a fracture or a torn ligament, and clearly, he couldn’t use it for now.
“Jeremy, are you alright? What did the doctor say?” Amelia asked, worry written all over her face.
“It’s fine. Just a small sprain,” he said casually.
“A small sprain? It looks way worse than that.” Amelia didn’t believe him for a second.
She
got up,
made him lie down, and handed him a pill. “You need to rest. Take this.”
He was hurt way worse than she was, yet he’d been sitting there the whole time waiting for her to wake up. That alone made her chest tighten a little.
Amelia felt a warm feeling spread through her chest. There was no way she’d let someone more hurt than her stay up and keep watch. So, she made him lie down on her hospital bed.
Good thing she still had a few healing pills on her. Even if his arm was bad, one of those would have him mostly better in a week.
For the rest of his recovery, she could make some special medicine once they got home. In two weeks, he’d be back on his feet like nothing happened.

Her medicine worked way better than those so–called healing pills Regina had given Gianna- the ones that came from some unknown source.
Amelia still didn’t know the exact source, but she had a strong feeling it was linked to The Alchemist Guild.
