Amelia was a little surprised–she hadn’t expected Ursula to flip so fast.

Maybe it was because Thea was her daughter; parents always side with their own children.
Pretty soon, Ursula’s tone shifted. “But your father says you disrespect your elders and cut ties with the family–what’s that about?”
There was unmistakable displeasure in Ursula’s tone.
A mocking smile curled at Amelia’s mouth. “Grandma, do you really think a normal father would kick his own daughter out just to raise a foster child?”
Ursula’s brow tightened. “Gianna has always been so obedient and sensible.”
“Obedient and sensible?” Amelia cut her off. “Do you know how she set me up again and again? Do you know she drugged me to steal my fiancé? Hired people to humiliate me?”
Ursula’s eyes went wide in shock. “Th–that can’t be!”
Amelia pulled out her phone and played a recording.
It was the same tape the family had already heard–and Ursula shouldn’t be spared it.
Let them hear it, Amelia thought, let them see what the ‘sweet, obedient‘ Gianna really is.
When Ursula finished listening, her face had gone ashen.
Ursula closed her eyes wearily. “Go on–leave me for a bit. I need some space for myself.”
Amelia bowed politely and turned to go.
Just outside the study, she caught sight of Gianna skulking around the corner.
“Amelia–Grandma didn’t give you a hard time, did she?” Gianna forced a calm voice.
Damn, she thought.
Has that bitch been talking nonsense? If Grandma believes her, what then?
Amelia sneered. “What, are you scared I’ll expose your dirty little secrets?”
A flash of panic crossed Gianna’s eyes; she put on a tearful act. “Amelia, I know you hate me, but Grandma’s old–she can’t take the shock.”

Amelia gave her a contemptuous look. “Had enough acting?”
She stepped closer and dropped her voice. “Gianna, do you really think such cheap tricks would fool Grandma?”
Gianna went pale and forced a smile. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Don’t worry–Grandma heard the recording I played earlier, so you can stop pretending.”
With that, Amelia walked straight toward the stairs.
Suddenly, an idea lit up in Gianna’s head; venom flashed in her eyes.
She lunged forward, grabbed Amelia, and cried, “Amelia, I’m sorry–it was all my fault. Please forgive me.”
Amelia felt her wrist gripped hard, and it hurt; she violently shook it free.
Using that motion, Gianna pitched forward toward the stairs-
“Aaah!” A piercing scream echoed through the villa.
Quick as a flash, Amelia sprang forward and caught the back of Gianna’s collar just as she was about to tumble.
“Trying to play the victim? That trick’s ancient,” Amelia sneered and hauled her back.
Gianna’s face went deathly white, her lips trembling. “W–what are you saying?” she stammered.
The noise drew Ursula from the study.
The old woman came out quickly and saw Amelia gripping Gianna by the collar.
“What is going on here?” Ursula demanded, voice sharp.
Gianna immediately broke down in tears. “Grandma–Amelia–I tried to apologize, and she wouldn’t accept it. She tried to push me down the stairs!”
Raymond and Emery rushed in at the sound and erupted in anger. “Amelia! That’s too far!”
Amelia stood at the top of the stairs, watching the spectacle with cold eyes.
Then, as suddenly as she’d grabbed her, Amelia let go–and Gianna rolled down the stairs like a ball.
“You wanted to fall down the stairs, didn’t you? There you go,” Amelia said.
