Chapter 315 Not Yet But Soon
Lucas cleared his throat, the tips of his cars faintly red, “I haven’t officially confessed yet.”
“What?” Tessa’s cane struck the floor with a sharp thud as she glared at her grandson, frustration written all over her face. “You’ve already brought her home, and you still haven’t confessed?”
Lucas, uncharacteristically embarrassed, murmured, “I was waiting for the right moment…”
“The right moment?” Tessa cut him off, jabbing a finger at his chest. “Sloane is such a wonderful girl-do you know how many men are lining up to chase her? At the last banquet, other men couldn’t take their eyes off her!”
Lucas’ gaze darkened. “Other men?”
“Don’t interrupt!” the old lady scolded, continuing her tirade. “Sloane is educated, kind, sensible; she’s even saved your life more than once. A girl like that-if you keep dragging your feet, someone else will steal her away!”
Lucas pressed his lips together, his eyes drifting unconsciously toward the staircase. “I know she’s amazing…”
“Then act on it already!” Tessa lowered her voice. “From what I can see, she’s not completely indifferent to you either. Lock it down while you can.” She pulled a velvet box from her pocket. “This was the ring your grandfather gave me back then. Take it.”
Lucas stared at the box in her hand, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Grandma…’
“If you don’t bring Sloane back as my granddaughter-in-law, then forget about me!” Tessa shoved the ring box firmly into his hand.
Meanwhile, by Saturday afternoon, the villa was filled with chatter and movement. The moment Samson stepped inside, he teased loudly, “Well, well… it’s rare for Lucas to host a gathering himself.”
“Samson, bring Jill and Benjamin over this weekend,” she added. “Sloane’s recuperating here; a lively house will do her good.”
Jill came bouncing in, flinging her arms around Sloane. “Sloane! I heard you were hurt; I was so worried!” She leaned in, lowering her voice. “That Ginnie-she got her CEO position stolen by her sister, then was shipped overseas by the Lyle family.”
She darted a glance toward Lucas. “Uncle Samson said it was all Mr. Hawthorne’s doing.”

At that, Sloane’s eyes shifted instinctively to Lucas, who was greeting guests. He wore a casual sweater instead of his usual suit, which softened his whole demeanor; he was speaking quietly with Benjamin..
“I know.” Sloane told Jill the truth about Lucas and Ginnic.
Outraged, Jill exclaimed, “Ginnie is awful-she misled you on purpose, made you nearly misunderstand Mr. Hawthorne.”
Her eyes sparkled with curiosity. “So… does that mean you’re going to be with Mr. Hawthorne?”
Sloane answered calmly, “Not yet.”
“Good. Make him work for it—I’m with you all the way.” Jill stood firmly on Sloane’s side.
Meanwhile, Samson noticed how distracted Lucas was, his gaze constantly drifting toward Sloane.
