Lucas arched a brow, but his arm only tightened around her. “Let’s hear it.”

“First,” Sloane raised one finger and gently pressed it against his lips, “if you’re with me, both your heart and your body belong to me alone.”

Lucas’ gaze darkened. He suddenly seized her wrist, pinning it against the desk, and leaned down until his hot breath brushed her ear. “And you?”

Trapped by his sudden move, Sloane showed not a hint of panic; instead, she tilted her face up to meet his eyes. “What kind of promise do you want from me?”

“This.” Lucas released her wrist, his fingertip tracing slowly down from the space between her brows, gliding past the bridge of her nose, and coming to rest on her tempting lips. “From now on, this…”

His finger slipped lower, tapping the tiny red mole at her collarbone. “And this…” At last, he pressed against her heart. “All of this belongs to me.”

Heat rose to the tips of Sloane’s ears at his declaration, though she forced herself to stay composed, lifting a brow. “Mr. Hawthorne, are you asking me to sign a deed of sale?”

“No.” Lucas suddenly bent his head and kissed her collarbone hard, leaving a distinct mark. “I’m stamping my seal”

Sloane let out a soft hiss, her fingers sliding into his hair. “Then the second…”

“Second,” she drew lazy circles across his chest with her fingertip, her eyes suddenly sharpening, “no matter what happens, you can’t keep secrets from me.” Her tone deepened. “Especially if it puts you in danger.”

Lucas caught her wandering finger, a faint crease forming between his brows. “That’s what I should be saying to you.”

“Third.” Sloane ignored his protest and pressed on. “If one day…” She hesitated, her voice dropping, “if you fall out of love, if your heart changes, then tell me right away.”

The office fell silent. Lucas’ eyes grew even darker, his hand tightening unconsciously at her waist. “That day will never come.”

“I said if. Nothing in this world is absolute.”

“There is no if.” Lucas cut her off, his voice low and resolute. He took her hand and pressed it against the left side of his chest; the strong, steady beat hammered through the fabric of his suit. “This heart was engraved with one name three years ago-Sloane.”

Feeling the frantic rhythm beneath her palm, Sloane suddenly laughed softly. “Then you’d better keep your word.” She deliberately dragged her nail across his chest. “Or else…”

“Or else what?” Lucas narrowed his eyes dangerously.

Sloane leaned close to his car, her lips brushing against it. “Or else, I’ll break your legs and lock you up in Medicine Valley.”

Lucas chuckled low, giving her waist a punishing squeeze. “Cruel woman.”
