Sloane darted forward and blocked Adrian and Samantha’s path. She grabbed Samantha’s wrist. “The game’s not over. No one’s leaving.”
Summer glanced at Lucas. Seeing that he remained silent and detached, she scoffed, clearly dismissing Sloane. “I’ll leave if I want. What are you going to do about it?”
“Oh?” Sloane let go of Samantha’s hand and smiled–cool and dangerous. “You walk out now, and I’ll post the whole video to the school forum.”
“What video?” Summer’s heart skipped a beat.
“This one,” Jill chimed in cheerfully. “I’ve been recording ever since you two challenged Sloane.”
Only then did Summer and Samantha realize that Jill had been holding her phone up the entire time, filming everything.
Summer lunged forward to snatch it, but Jill was too fast–she dodged behind Samson, completely out of reach.
Samantha tugged at Adrian’s sleeve and murmured, “Adrian…”
Adrian’s protective instincts kicked in. He summoned his courage and looked toward Lucas. “Mr. Hawthorne…”
Lucas barely lifted his gaze. Just one look–and that was all it took.
A chill ran straight up Adrian’s spine. The bravery he had mustered evaporated instantly.
Grimacing, he pulled Samantha forward. “Sammy, finish the game.”
Samantha stared at him in disbelief, but quickly masked her emotions. After weighing her options, she gave a soft nod. “Okay. Whatever you say.”
Adrian looked away, guilt flooding his face. He shot a vicious glare at Sloane,
She saw it, but didn’t care in the slightest.
Samantha’s nerves were in shambles. As expected, she didn’t knock down a single pin.
In the next two rounds, both Samantha and Summer only got worse–racking up error after
error.

Meanwhile, Sloane didn’t miss a beat. Strike after strike, pin after pin, the applause in the alley grew louder with each perfect round.
Summer and Samantha stood frozen, their faces pale and twisted with disbelief.
Then Summer snapped. She stomped forward and jabbed a finger in Sloane’s face. “You must’ve cheated! There’s no way you suddenly got this good!”
Sloane stepped closer, locking eyes with her, voice cold and razor–sharp. “Oh? So when you win, it’s fair, but when I win, it’s cheating? Can’t handle losing, don’t play. You think I cheated? Go ahead. Show your proof.”
Just then, Lucas stepped up beside Sloane. His face was calm, but his voice carried
unmistakable authority. “Summer. You made a bet. If you can’t accept the outcome, deal with the consequences.”
