The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 76

The moment the alarm blared, Naomi’s face turned a mortified shade of green—she wished she could disappear into the floor.

Around her, coworkers tried—and failed—to stifle their laughter, hands clamped over their mouths. Who would have thought Lindsay would be so crafty, rigging her own desk drawer with a noisemaker?

Naomi, humiliated by the chorus of snickers, spun on her heel and hurried out of the room.

Word of the incident traveled fast. By lunchtime, Lindsay had already heard the story. She was halfway through her meal when she burst out laughing, nearly choking on her food.

She’d known Naomi would be too curious to resist peeking at her designs, which was exactly why she’d planted a motion sensor in her desk drawer. The alarm would sound the moment anyone opened it. Of course, Lindsay always turned it off when she was at her station, so it only caught would-be snoops like Naomi.

Naomi, having collected her lunch, stormed over and sat down across from Lindsay. She showed no sign of remorse for her earlier antics—instead, she looked put out and glared at Lindsay as if the whole thing had been a personal affront.

“You set me up on purpose! Just like yesterday, trying to embarrass me in front of everyone.”

Lindsay arched a brow, incredulous. Was Naomi seriously blaming her after getting caught red-handed? The nerve.

“Obviously I did. What are you gonna do about it? Hit me?” Lindsay replied, grinning.

Naomi ground her teeth, fuming at Lindsay’s smug confession. “Don’t get cocky, Lindsay. I’ll beat you. The Vogue Vision title is as good as mine.”

Lindsay could hardly believe Naomi’s confidence. Where did it come from? Naomi had neither the education nor the talent—if Lester didn’t treat her like gold, she’d be stuck in some forgotten corner of the company.
