“Listen, I’m not kidding! Joseph is actually going to die in a car accident!” Cheryl declared, her face unusually serious.
Lindsay fixed her with a skeptical look, eyebrows knitting together. “And how would you know that?”
Cheryl pinched her fingers together, as if consulting some invisible chart. “I did a little calculation—his fate is pretty much set. And before he dies, he’ll get what’s coming to him. Trust me, his ending is going to be miserable.”
Lindsay fell silent. Could Cheryl actually know something about fortune-telling?
Joseph had made her life hell in her previous life—why would she let him off the hook this time? Cheryl said Joseph would be punished. Was she the one who’d deliver that punishment?
“What a jerk. And look at them, holding hands. I have to take a photo for my sister—if she still doesn’t break up with him after seeing this, I’ll pretend I don’t know her.” Cheryl grumbled as she whipped out her phone, snapping a couple of pictures of Joseph and Naomi. Every shot made their relationship look way too cozy to be innocent.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Lindsay said, “Send me those photos, will you?”
Might as well let Lester see what his precious Naomi is really up to.
Cheryl just nodded, not bothering to probe Lindsay’s motives.
Lindsay created a new email account and sent the photos to Lester. Once that was done, she circled back to the subject of fate.
“You said you could see Joseph’s fate—what about mine? Am I doomed to an early grave?”
She’d died in her twenties last time around, so the answer seemed obvious. But now that she’d gotten a second chance, had her fate changed too?
Cheryl finished typing her message and looked up, her manner grave. “You’re destined for a long, prosperous life. You’ll have wealth and comfort, maybe a few ups and downs along the way, but nothing you can’t handle.”
