Lindsay raised an eyebrow, her curiosity about Cheryl only deepening. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Cheryl was hiding a whole world of secrets.

“All right, I’m heading out,” Lindsay said, grabbing her purse and making for the door.

Cheryl was waiting outside. As soon as Lindsay stepped out, Cheryl grinned and teased, “Honestly, I half expected him to forbid you from hanging out with me.”

Lindsay laughed, tossing the question back at her. “Why would he? You’re not exactly public enemy number one. Besides, you’re his friend.”

Cheryl stroked her chin thoughtfully. “Maybe in his eyes, I am a menace.”

Lindsay gave her a once-over, her gaze lingering on Cheryl’s strikingly beautiful face. “Well… you can be dangerous, I’ll give you that.”

Cheryl blinked in surprise, then burst out laughing, eyes crinkling. “Are you calling me pretty or trouble? Either way, I’m flattered.”

“C’mon, let’s go, or we’ll miss the previews.”

Cheryl nodded, and the two of them headed downstairs together, side by side.

Today, Cheryl was the designated driver. Their first stop was Tigu Mall, where the movie theater occupied the ground floor.

They’d picked a brand-new supernatural thriller, heavy on suspense and ghostly scares. The theater was packed.

Judging by the crowd, most moviegoers had come in pairs—couples everywhere.

The lights dimmed. The movie started.

It opened with the most familiar setup: the heroine runs headlong into a ghost.

The atmosphere in the theater was electric. Eight booming speakers filled the room with spine-chilling music—an open invitation for every guy in the audience to play the hero.

Cheryl rolled her eyes, unable to resist mocking the movie’s “ghosts.” The way she described them, you’d think she’d actually met one.

Lindsay glanced at her, curiosity flickering, but kept her thoughts to herself.
