Then, she shoved people aside as she stomped toward Vinny, hand poised to slap her silly. Alas, someone grabbed her wrist before she could swing it down.

Theresa looked her dead in the eye. “Who do you think you are to touch my family?”

“But I didn’t hit her, did I? I didn’t even hurt a hair on her head!” Rita shrieked.

A middle–aged woman in the crowd, who was probably friends with Rita, added her unwanted two cents, “Exactly! She didn’t hit anyone. So, how could that outsider hurt one of ours?”

“The inner camp selection is tomorrow, but her face is all messed up now. How are you going to fix this?”

“That outsider has taken it too far!

“She has to be severely punished!”

“Mr. Hershberge, do something!” Rita bawled, her tears running down in rivulets. Herman merely shot her a glance before approaching Ava and the others. He ignored all the chants of blood and retribution, choosing to ask the onlookers who were there for the details.

Ava and her friends didn’t bother obfuscating anything. Instead, they outlined what had happened clearly, telling everyone else what had actually happened. Herman then asked whether Lara’s claim that Rita raised her hand against her kid was real.

Once he had gotten the answer, he said firmly, “Rita, you started the fight, so you were in the wrong. Apologize. I’ll have them apologize to you after. This farce is over.”

Rita only continued to sob when she heard Herman’s decision. She didn’t want to apologize.

She continued to play the victim, crying her heart out. Eventually, the onlookers started to pity her.

“Herman, Rita got slapped! Don’t you think you’re being unfair by making her apologize?”

“That’s right! Besides, they aren’t even one of us! That outsider should be the one apologizing!”

“There’s no twisting the facts. What Rita did was wrong. She started the fight, so she has to apologize first!” Herman said.

“Oh, please! It takes two to tango. I’m sure the outsiders aren’t innocent flowers either!” the woman defending Rita said shrilly.
