On the way, Theresa wanted to ask him several questions, but the man remained silent.
Still, she noticed the door card hanging from him–the number began with an “A.”
He was one of the higher–ranking members.
After passing through several guarded doors, Theresa realized they were descending further underground. They eventually stopped before a massive gate.
Several people stood guard at the entrance. When they saw two people approaching, one of them frowned.
“Why are there two people?”
“She said that person is her follower and insisted on bringing her,” explained the A–Rank administrator.
The others, seemingly of the same rank, didn’t argue. “The Academy members will be here soon. Let’s wait.”
Academy? Theresa noticed this unfamiliar term. “What Academy?” she asked aloud.
An older man with an A–Rank badge looked her over. “How many abilities do you have?”
“Answer me first. Then, I’ll tell you.”
The old man paused, then nodded. “Fine. Since you’ve already been chosen by our Divine Academy, telling you a bit won’t hurt.
“The Divine Academy is humanity’s hope and future. Led by our core members, we study the zombie virus and seek the strongest, most outstanding individuals to participate in our research. You are exceptional, and the Academy has found you.”
“You will carry humanity’s hope–you are our future.”
Theresa stared at him in silence. What a grand gesture.
She smiled at the old man. “Wait a second–slow down. What exactly is this Divine Academy? When was it established? Who are the core members? Who’s in charge?”
Practical as ever, Theresa didn’t care how grand their ideals sounded. Knowing the leader’s identity would reveal their true intentions.
The old man’s expression grew stern as he listened to her detailed questions. “Core Academy

matters cannot be disclosed, but I can tell you who the leader is.”
“Who?”
“There isn’t one.”
Theresa’s expression froze.

“The Academy’s leader has not yet appeared. We are still searching. From among many exceptional individuals, we will select the strongest. That person will become the leader of the Divine Academy.”
“Then, who has the authority to select these people?”
Theresa arched a brow. She wasn’t interested in how the leader would be chosen, but in who had the right to choose.
As someone who had built her way up step by step and taken control of an entire alliance through sheer skill, Theresa knew very well that power was something one had to seize gradually.
There were no free lunches in this world, and the idea of choosing the strongest human as a leader through elections was nothing but a show.
Why does the chosen one automatically have the right to rule such an organization? Just because they’re called ‘exceptional‘? That only makes them either a puppet or an experiment.
From his words, she knew he offered only empty ideals.
The real leader was hidden.
Her question about who had the right to choose was the heart of the matter. Because whoever held the power to choose was the one truly in charge.
The ones being chosen? They were nothing.
The old man finally answered, “Our internal S–Rank members will decide.”
S–Rank! So, this is indeed a rigidly hierarchical organization. A, B, and C are ordinary members; only S- Rank represents the true core.
Theresa wanted to ask more, but the man interrupted her, saying, “I’ve already said enough. Now it’s your turn.”
“Alright.” Theresa shrugged. “I’m a multi–ability user.”
“How many abilities?”
