Dizzy and her face burning, Gabriella stared at Theresa, hatred smoldering in her chest. Before she could say a word, her head slumped to the side–she had fainted.

Theresa frowned, surprised at how easily Gabriella collapsed. She glanced at the identity card hanging from Gabriella’s neck, plucked it free, and pushed her aside.

But the moment Gabriella hit the floor, she sprang upright like a startled catfish and darted across the room with surprising speed.

In the blink of an eye, she had dashed to the northwest corner and yanked a hidden handle. The next second, she slipped through a door into another chamber.

From behind the glass wall, Gabriella glared with venom at Theresa, her swollen face twisted in fury.

Theresa patted her head, then raised her eyes to the four doors surrounding the room. Overhead, an alarm blared.

She swiped Gabriella’s card at the door they had come through.

Beep. The door unlocked.

She grabbed Vinny’s hand and pulled her forward, racing out of the room.

Theresa’s memory was sharp, but strangely, she became disoriented in the maze.

She opened one door, only to find yet another ring of doors. After following her route and running in circles, she realized she was lost.

Every door looked the same, one after another, making it impossible to tell which way to go.

Then she noticed it–the air carried a faint trace of carbon monoxide.

Their breathing grew heavier.

Beside her, Vinny staggered, her head spinning.

“Theresa, I’m fine,” she insisted, trying to stay conscious.
