Theresa glared at the coward. “If you’re not going, I am.”

“…” Bennie hesitated. He was the kind to cling to life, not throw it away. There was no way he could step up.
“Then zip it. And don’t even think about slacking at home. If the Blazing Sun Alliance loses even a scrap of anything, you’ll get beaten to a pulp!” Theresa strode inside without another word.
Bennie watched her back, his usually steely eyes twitching. He wanted to call out, stop her, push himself, and insist he’d go instead.
But the words just wouldn’t come.
I just can’t be like Theresa–so fearless, always charging headfirst into whatever comes. She meets every challenge and grows stronger against every threat. Me? I’m honestly just a big coward.
So, when Theresa and the others launched their counterattack on the city, Bennie hung back, watching from the sidelines.
He didn’t step in until they’d made real progress, inching forward, almost on the verge of taking the city. Even then, he joined cautiously, staying well behind the front lines.
Growing up with comfort had made him value his life too much. He was intelligent, meticulous, the kind of guy everyone called a golden child. He thought that was him, too— until he met Theresa.
Meeting her changed everything. Suddenly, he saw what it meant to shine truly. Every bold move she made made his heart skip a beat. But what amazed him even more was that she always came out on top.
And it wasn’t luck. It was pure skill. She had the strength to back every daring choice, pushing past limits and making the impossible happen.
Theresa only acted when certain, and her confidence was rooted in real, unshakable ability. She did things Bennie couldn’t even dream of attempting–and did them flawlessly.
“Theresa, I…” Bennie trailed off, the words catching in his throat. He watched her step forward and quickly fell behind her, following her inside.
“We’ve agreed. We’ll provide you with the very best,” Theresa said once they were inside.
Everyone in the room turned to her. “And you… Who are you in the Blazing Sun Alliance?”

“Think of me as, well, the street–level director for our Alliance,” she replied.

After all, the Blazing Sun Alliance only had tens of thousands of people. By pre–apocalypse standards, managing a population that size was basically running a district office.
“You make some strong points. I agree. Humanity should be led by people with ideals like yours -people who can crack the zombie virus and build a new world.” Theresa stepped closer, locking eyes with them. “And I happen to be the strongest in the Blazing Sun Alliance.”
Everyone exchanged glances. Finally, the leader spoke, “The strongest in your camp?”
“That’s right. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to test it.” Theresa’s tone was confident, almost daring.
The man in the white coat nodded to his subordinates. An A–Rank employee wheeled forward a machine.
The leader’s gaze stayed icy as he addressed Theresa. “Our standards are strict. To be considered the strongest, you need at least three abilities. Even if you have both a speed–type and strength–type ability, it only counts as one. This machine will test your abilities—once you step on, it automatically scans your…”
Before he could finish, Theresa was already stepping onto the platform, her hands gripping the detectors with practiced ease.
The next instant, a blinding surge of light erupted, leaving everyone in the room frozen in shock.
White, red, yellow, blue, red, green, purple… That’s… eight, maybe nine abilities! Th–this… this is precisely the kind of top–tier human we’ve been looking for!
The man leading the group caught sight of the light and something clicked in his mind. “What’s your name?” he demanded.
Theresa met his gaze calmly. “Theresa.”
After hearing her name, the man stared at her momentarily before a sharp realization hit him. “No… this can’t be! Gabriella tricked us!”
Earlier, the canyon camp had sent them a report about a once–in–a–lifetime multi–ability user. The news had immediately set off alarms at the top levels.
They had rushed to bring Theresa in, thinking they’d finally secured the prodigy. But Gabriella had replied that the so–called multi–ability user was fake–she insisted the person didn’t exist.
And now, here she was, standing right in front of them.
