On the other side of town.
Danielle had sent people out to investigate a number of things.
One by one, her contacts returned with updates.
She stared at the reports filling her laptop screen, her gaze tightening with concern.
She still hadn’t found out who had drugged her during that dinner with Harold and her older brother. The person behind it remained a mystery.
Outside, the night was deep and still. Danielle stared at her screen, lost in thought.
[Every time we seem to get close to the truth, something breaks the trail. It's almost as if someone is actively blocking us from getting any real answers.]
[Whoever is behind this is more resourceful than we are. Their methods are on another level. If they want to keep us in the dark, there’s little we can do.]
Danielle rubbed her brow, unsettled. This incident had been eating away at her.
[Maybe you should think carefully—who benefits from keeping you in the dark? If it’s the same person who drugged you, you’re in even more danger than you realize. Someone who can slip something into your drink without you noticing could easily go further. You need to be careful.]
Danielle’s frown deepened as she read the messages. That was exactly what worried her. She’d kept her investigators on the case, but every lead kept getting stonewalled.
She tapped out a reply on her keyboard: [Keep digging. Report back to me with anything you find, no matter how small.]
Her contacts were part of a private intelligence network she’d built up over the years.
Another message popped up almost immediately.
[Is it possible Mr. Davidson doesn’t want you to know who drugged you? After all, you ended up in bed with him that night—and the timing was uncanny. You were drugged, and then he just happened to show up at exactly the right moment. Isn’t that at least a little suspicious?]
Danielle pinched the bridge of her nose.
She’d considered that angle. But no matter how she turned it over in her mind, she couldn’t believe Alexander would be the one to drug her.
Danielle was planning to leave Northridge soon, but before she did, there were things she needed to clarify.
Her own safety—and her daughter’s—might depend on it.
Especially the matter of that night, when she’d been drugged.
It hadn’t been some random event—someone had clearly targeted her, hoping to get her into bed for their own purposes.
That night, it had been her brother and Harold at the dinner.
Danielle forced herself to calmly reconsider every detail of that evening.
No matter how she turned it over in her mind, Alexander’s words kept coming back to her.
He’d always warned her, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways, to keep her distance from her brother.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
