Millie was sure she’d finally made it—her research was groundbreaking, a once-in-a-generation discovery. She was convinced she’d surpassed Danielle at last.
But she hadn’t expected the cruel twist: this “breakthrough” was something she herself had developed years ago.
Millie glanced at Danielle, her gaze cool and appraising. “Look at yourself now. You have everything—fame, fortune, the world at your feet. In the world of science, you’re practically a legend. Everyone’s desperate to work with you.”
“But even now, you come to me with your questions. You still have your troubles, your uncertainties, your puzzles.”
Her eyes darkened as she studied Danielle. “Let me guess. You’re here to ask about that little comfort you’ve been seeking. You think I was behind the dangers you faced.”
“Or even if I wasn’t, you assume I must know who was pulling the strings behind the scenes.”
Millie shook her head, lips curling in a wry smile. “I can tell you this much for sure: I don’t know who’s behind it, and I’m not stupid enough to set those traps myself.”
Danielle’s brow furrowed, uncertainty flickering across her face as she weighed Millie’s words. How much could she trust this woman’s version of the truth?
Millie saw the hesitation immediately. “I know you don’t see me as a good person. And for the record, Alexander never promised me anything.”
“All he ever did was follow his father’s orders to look after me. He was only fulfilling a duty. Sure, I used him, made things more complicated for you, but it’s not as if he never used me in return.”
A bitter laugh escaped Millie’s lips.
“Sometimes I envy women like you, who can cut all ties and never look back. You’re immune to men. No matter how I try to provoke you, you always meet me with that same indifference.”
“I used to think you were just good at hiding your feelings. Now I see you simply don’t care about him at all.”
“Do you ever wonder why Alexander and I always managed to show up at just the right moment?” Millie’s smile was sharp. “You think it’s coincidence? Don’t you ever wonder if there are really that many coincidences in the world?”
“At first, I thought it was pure chance too. But after it happened again and again, I realized—he was doing it on purpose.”
Danielle shook her head.
Whatever Alexander’s motives were, she refused to let them dictate her life. Chasing after his intentions and analyzing his every move would only leave her running in circles.
You couldn’t spend your life obsessing over a man—especially not a man as inscrutable as Alexander.
“Your biggest mistake,” Millie said softly, “was making Alexander the center of your universe.”

I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
