Didn’t Millie realize from the start that she was making a mistake?
Of course she did.
She knew all too well how much she clung to Alexander, how desperately she wanted to stand by his side, to be the one who matched him stride for stride.
After all, the man was exceptional—brilliant, magnetic, impossible to ignore.
People are always drawn to beautiful things, yearning for them, chasing after them.
A bitter laugh escaped Millie, her eyes brimming with disappointment and despair.
“I used to think he just treated me as a friend. But when he lifted me up, when he gave me hope, I started believing maybe he felt something more,” Millie said quietly. “But in the end, it was all an illusion—a fantasy I made up for myself.”
“It took me going in circles to finally realize—I was the biggest fool of all.”
Sometimes, pretending ignorance is easier than facing the truth.
But she’d been wrong.
Her mistake was caring too much about Alexander, wanting so desperately to become Mrs. Davidson, to be the woman at his side for all the world to see.
And Alexander? He’d always tolerated her presence, but only because of his father.
Every gesture, every kindness—it was just for show.
And she’d taken it all to heart.
If she’d managed to keep her feelings in check, if she hadn’t let herself get swept up in delusions and schemes, maybe she could’ve used the resources at her disposal to really make something of herself. Even if she couldn’t reach the top, she might’ve earned a solid place in the scientific community.
The truth was, Alexander had patience.
He could put up with her flitting around him, as long as she didn’t cross the line.
He’d always been distant, detached.
He’d grant her requests, yes—but there was always a price, spoken or not.
Her real mistake was going after Danielle, again and again.
“He’s at the top—everyone thinks he gets whatever he wants, whenever he wants.” Millie’s voice grew sharper. “But he knows exactly where everyone’s breaking point is. He used my pride and arrogance to set me up, and he made a clean break with the Fletcher family—no loose ends, nothing left behind.”
“Do you understand what it’s like, that moment when you realize everything good he ever did for you was just laying the groundwork to ruin me?” Millie’s smile was full of self-mockery. “I was so stupid.”
But she refused to admit defeat.
If she had the chance to go back, she’d make the same choices. When people see an opportunity, they’ll do anything to climb higher.
She never wanted to be the other woman, but people fight over the best, don’t they?
If she could do it all again, she’d just play it smarter. She’d change her tactics.
Danielle hadn’t come here today to listen to all this.
Millie kept going on about Alexander setting her up.
But all Danielle ever saw was Alexander being good to Millie.
Yet every single time, without fail, it ended in disaster for Millie.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
