The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 790

She forced herself to stop thinking about it.

After more than three hours on the road, they finally arrived in Nexus Prime.

Danielle had already rented a small house here with a cozy backyard—just enough space for her and her daughter. Once inside, she and Niki did a bit of tidying up, and by dusk, Danielle was holding her daughter’s hand as they headed to the nearby supermarket for some essentials.

On the way, as they passed a children’s shelter, Niki suddenly stopped in her tracks and pointed at the steps by the entrance. “Mom! Look! Isn’t that Raffy?”

Following her daughter’s gaze, Danielle saw a tiny figure curled up on the stone steps. The boy’s clothes were filthy and torn, his hair a tangled mess, and there were streaks of dirt across his face. It was Raffy.

A jolt went through her. She never expected to see him here.

After Leanne’s company went under, Danielle had assumed Raffy would have left town with her. She’d never imagined Leanne would abandon him at a shelter.

“Raffy?” Niki slipped free of Danielle’s grip and hurried over.

Her big brother used to be neat and well-dressed. Now he looked nothing like the proud boy she remembered. Pity welled up in her heart.

She dug in her pocket and pulled out a pack of strawberry cookies she’d just bought, holding them out to him. “Raffy, these are my favorite cookies. You can have them—they’re really sweet.”

But Raffy’s head snapped up, his eyes full of suspicion and hostility. He slapped the cookies out of her hand, scattering them across the pavement. Then, with a scowl, he stomped on the crumbled treats and spat out, “Why would I want your food? You and your mom just came to laugh at me, didn’t you? I don’t need your pity!”

Danielle rushed over, pulling Niki protectively to her side. She glanced down at the crushed cookies and sighed inwardly.

She’d raised Raffy for five years, poured her heart into him, but he’d always been cold and distant, like a stone that never warmed. Now, he was sharper and more bitter than ever.
