Leanna shot Landon a look of pure disdain.
“What kind of little puppy are you talking about? You burn through hundreds of thousands every month—can’t afford to keep a pet?”
Landon gave her a cold stare.
“Just wait till you see the photos. I promise you’ll think it’s money well spent.”
With a sly grin, Leanna scrolled through her phone and shoved it in Landon’s face.
“Look, Landon, isn’t he cute? Look at that body—perfection, right? Worth me spending a fortune on him every month or not?”
But as Landon’s eyes landed on the “puppy” Leanna was gushing about, his face darkened.
“Your so-called puppy… is a guy?”
“Well, duh. What did you think, I was keeping a woman?”
Leanna rolled her eyes at him again, then suddenly burst out laughing, pointing at Landon as she doubled over.
“Oh my god, Landon, seriously? Did you actually think I was talking about a real puppy? You’re so out of touch! ‘Little puppy’—these days it means a sweet, young guy who dotes on you. Look at him—doesn’t he just have that adorable, loyal face?”
She shook her head in mock disappointment.
“Honestly, Landon, you’re really something. You’re not even that old, but you can’t keep up with our generation’s trends at all. Guys like him are what we call ‘puppies.’ Guys like you… well, you’d be what people call a ‘wolfdog.’ Actually, scratch that—wolfdogs are supposed to be passionate and energetic, putting all their effort into pleasing a woman. You? With that cold poker face, you don’t make the cut. Maybe… just a lone wolf? No, that’s not right either. After all, you did marry Zinnia.”
Leanna didn’t seem to care about Landon’s stony expression. She clicked her tongue, shaking her head in mock pity.
“Honestly, I don’t get what Zinnia sees in an ice-cold guy like you. As if ‘puppies’ aren’t cute enough or ‘wolfdogs’ can’t satisfy her—guess she just doesn’t know how to treat herself.”
Landon finally cut her off. “Leanna, do you still want your allowance?”
She perked right up. “Yes, yes, of course!”
Landon’s tone was cool and measured.
…Was he insulting her?
That was her first instinct. There’s no way he’d gone off the radar for days, only to send her this out of the blue as some creative compliment—like she was “adorably silly.”
She knew better than to kid herself; Landon wasn’t exactly known for his playful praise.
Without replying, Zinnia tossed her phone into the desk drawer.
“Next patient, please.”
Meanwhile, Landon stared at his own screen, realizing he couldn’t unsend what he’d just delivered.
There was only one thing on his mind—
He was going to kill Leanna.
